AMOCA OFFERS STUDENTS FROM SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SCHOOLS A MULTI-FACETED MUSEUM EXPERIENCE THAT IS DESIGNED IN ACCORDANCE WITH CALIFORNIA STATE STANDARDS. AMOCA ALSO WELCOMED OVER 850 INDIVIDUALS, PRIMARILY FROM THE LOCAL COMMUNITY, TO FOUR FREE FAMILY DAYS. EACH OF THE FREE FAMILY DAYS FEATURED HANDS-ON CERAMIC ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATED WITH THE EXHIBITIONS THEN ON DISPLAY. IN ADDITION, PROMINENT CERAMIC ARTISTS MICHAEL SHERRILL FROM ASHEVILLE, NC AND DIEGO VALLES FROM MATA ORTIZ, MEXICO OFFERED WORKSHOPS AND LECTURES AT AMOCA. THE AMOCA CERAMICS STUDIO PROVIDED A RANGE OF EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR COMMUNITY MEMBERS OF ALL AGES AND LEVELS OF ARTISTIC ACCOMPLISHMENT. THE STUDIO OFFERED FOUR, NINE-WEEK SESSIONS OF CLASSES AND WORKSHOPS. IN ADDITION, THERE WERE OVER 200 STUDIO MEMBERS, 8 RESIDENT ARTISTS, 3 VISITING ARTISTS. THE 2.5 STAFF MEMBERS ALONG WITH 5 INSTRUCTORS AND 50 VOLUNTEERS. AMOCA SERVES PRIMARILY A LOS ANGELES COUNTY AUDIENCE WITH A SPECIAL FOCUS ON POMONA, ONTARIO, MONTCLAIR, WHICH IS AT LEAST 69% LATINO AND LOW INCOME. OF THE 13,000+ INDIVIDUALS WHO VISITED AMOCA IN 2015, WE ANTICIPATE THAT 30% RESIDE IN THESE COMMUNITIES ALL OF WHICH HAVE UNDER PERFORMING SCHOOLS. 4C PROGRAM SERVICE ACCOMPLISHMENTS-COLLECTIONS AMOCA'S HOLDINGS INCLUDE A PERMANENT COLLECTION OF CERAMIC ARTWORKS, AN EDUCATION COLLECTION OF CERAMIC ARTWORKS AND THE ROGER AND HELEN PORTER CERAMIC LIBRARY, WHICH HOUSES LIBRARY BOOKS AND ARCHIVAL COLLECTIONS RELATED TO CERAMICS FOR PUBLIC USE. THESE COLLECTIONS ARE MANAGED BY THE COLLECTIONS MANAGER/REGISTRAR WHO SUPERVISES VOLUNTEERS AND INTERNS ON COLLECTION MAINTENANCE PROJECTS. IN 2015, THE MUSEUM ACQUIRED 506 NEW ARTWORKS. IN TOTAL, THE MUSEUM CARES FOR AN ESTIMATED OVER 7,000 ARTWORKS IN ITS PERMANENT AND EDUCATION COLLECTIONS (PROMISED OR ACQUIRED) AS WELL AS AN ESTIMATED OVER 4,000 BOOKS AND PERIODICALS. |
