Every day the Auburn-Lewiston YMCA promotes healthy lifestyles and the development of children, teens and adults. They support families and strengthen communities through services and programs that meet local needs."In 2015, the Maine Orthopaedic Foundation supported the Auburn-Lewiston YMCA's Greater LA Triple Crown 5K Run/Walk. 8,000
    2 Central Maine Adaptive Sports offers instruction to physically and mentally challenged children and adults in alpine skiing, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, snowboarding, and bi-skiing. Their mission is to provide their students the opportunity to participate in outdoor recreation activities and to enhance their ability with independence skiing with one on one support and adaptive equipment. They focus on abilities, not disabilities.Maine Orthopaedic Foundation's 2015 donation provided operating support for these important programs. 5,000
    3 Maine Adaptive Sports & Recreation promotes year-round education and training for individuals with physical disabilities in order to develop skills and provide enjoyment through active recreation. In 2015, Maine Orthopaedic Foundation's donation was used to directly provide thousands of individual lessons to children and adults with physical disabilities. The lessons are offered free to every participant, eliminating one of the key barriers to gaining access to the life-changing benefits of adaptive sports and recreation. 5,000
    4 The Pine Tree Society for Handicapped Children & Adults provides Maine children and adults with disabilities the opportunities and the means to create better lives for themselves and their families. They offer a full range of comprehensive and professional services designed to help people with disabilities lead active, more socially connected lives. In 2015, the Foundation supported the Society's Pine Tree Camp, which offers children and adults with disabilities an extraordinary summer camp experience. Located on North Pond in Rome, Maine, the camp facilities are fully adapted to meet the special needs of campers. The barrier-free setting and commitment of their staff allow campers to fully participate in activities that normally are not available to them including swimming, fishing, boating, outdoor game, kayaking, arts and crafts and camping in a tent under the stars. 5,000
