Community Service The Academy has several projects to encourage medical students to choose the specialty of family medicine. Because of the broad nature of the specialty of family medicine and the positive impact on access to health care, the production and maintenance of the number of family physicians significantly benefits the public.Education Services The Academy conducts an annual two-day educational program for over 350 family physicians called the Spring Refresher. The Academy conducts one annual two-day continuing medical education conference on rotating topics for approximately 60 physicians called the Winter Conference. The Academy conducts a one-day educational program called the Research Forum at which medical research projects are presented. The Academy also conducts an annual residency program event to provide medical students with information to help them explore and select a family medicine residency program, along with some training on performing procedures. Membership Services Academy members receive opportunities for professional education through the Spring Refresher and other conferences, for networking and exchanging ideas through committees and task forces, and for expressing views of the profession to the legislature, government, and private sector organizations affecting the health care system.Publications The Academys bi-monthly publication, Minnesota Family Physician, provides members with information about the organization, educational opportunities, patient care information and practice opportunities. The publication is mailed to all members in active practice (approximately 2000) and e-mailed to student and resident members. The Academy maintains a website that provides information for members, patients and the general public. The Academy publishes an electronic News Flash to members every two weeks during the Minnesota Legislative Session and monthly the rest of the year.

Part X : FIN48 Footnote The Organization has a tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(6) of the Internal Revenue Code and has adopted Accounting for Uncertainty in Income Taxes, ASC 740-10. The Organization's policy is to evaluate uncertain tax positions, at least annually, for the potential for income tax exposure from unrelated business income or from loss of nonprofit status. The Organization continues to operate consistent with its original exemption application and each year takes the necessary actions to maintain its exempt status. It has been classified as an organization that is not a private foundation under the Internal Revenue Code and charitable contributions by donors are tax deductible.
