What is the organization's primary exempt purpose? THE UTAH MASONRY COUNCIL (UMC) IS COMMITTED TO ENHANCING PROFESSIONALISM WITHIN THE MASONRY INDUSTRY AND INCREASING THE UNDERSTANDING OF PROPER MASONRY PRODUCT UTILIZATION THROUGHOUT UTAH. UMC IS DEDICATED TO FACILITATING THE USE OF MASONRY THROUGH EDUCATION, PROMOTION, AND TECHNICAL SUPPORT DURING THE DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION PHASES. THE COUNCIL STRIVES TO IMPROVE THE BUSINESS CONDITIONS OF THE MASONRY INDUSTRY WITHIN THE MEANING OF SECTION 501(c)(6) OF THE INTERNAL REVENUE CODE

28 UMC SUPPORTED MASONRY DESIGN BY PARTICIPATING IN A NATIONAL COST COMPARISON STUDY IDENTIFYING CONSTRUCTIONS COSTS OF SEVERAL BUILDING SYSTEMS UTILIZING SEVERAL DIFFERENT MATERIALS, INCLUDING WOOD FRAMING, STEEL FRAMING, PRECASE, AND MASONRY. NATIONALLY, THE MASONRY AND PRECAST MIXED BEDROOM SCHEME RECEIVED THE LOWEST RELATIVE COST.UMC IN COOPERATION WITH THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF LABOR AND SALT LAKE COMMUNITY COLLEGE DEVELOPED A MASONRY APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM TO TRAIN MASONS IN THE SKILL OF BUILDING STRUCTURES USING MASONRY MATERIALS.
