AT THE END OF FISCAL YEAR 2015, MCF ADMINISTERED OVER 550 COMPONENT FUNDS AND 12 SUPPORTING ORGANIZATIONS. II. DISTRIBUTION TRUSTEE OF THE LEONARD AND BERYL BUCK TRUST ("BUCK TRUST"): DURING FISCAL YEAR 2015, NEW GRANTS AWARDED FROM THE BUCK TRUST IN SUPPORT OF MCF'S GOAL TO CREATE EQUITY OF OPPORTUNITY FOR EVERY RESIDENT OF MARIN TOTALED $19.8 MILLION. GRANTS WERE MADE TO SUPPORT THREE STRATEGIC INITIATIVES AS WELL AS SEVEN COMMUNITY GRANTS AREAS. THE STRATEGIC INITIATIVES ARE: CLOSING THE EDUCATIONAL ACHIEVEMENT GAP; INCREASING AFFORDABLE HOUSING; AND ENDING THE CYCLE OF POVERTY. ISSUE AREAS BEING SUPPORTED UNDER THE COMMUNITY GRANTS AREAS WERE IMMIGRANT INTEGRATION, SERVICES FOR OLDER ADULTS, COMMUNITY HEALTH, EQUITY IN LEGAL PROTECTION, THE ENVIRONMENT, ARTS AND CULTURE, AND SOCIAL JUSTICE. MCF'S RESEARCH & EVALUATION DEPARTMENT OVERSAW THE CREATION AND ONGOING MONITORING OF OUTCOME MEASUREMENTS AND METRICS FOR GRANTS MADE UNDER THE FOUNDATION'S STRATEGIC PLAN III. LOANS AT THE END OF FY 2015, THE COMMUNITY INVESTMENT LOAN FUND HAD 21 LOANS IN ITS PORTFOLIO AND $11.7 MILLION IN PRINCIPAL OUTSTANDING. THE FOUNDATION MAKES BELOW-MARKET RATE LOANS TO NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS TO MEET A NUMBER OF OBJECTIVES: TO PROVIDE INVESTMENT CAPITAL PROJECTS AND REVENUE-PRODUCING VENTURES; TO ENCOURAGE THE ECONOMIC INDEPENDENCE AND STABILITY OF NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS; TO PROVIDE ALTERNATIVES TO OR AUGMENT TRADITIONAL FUNDING SOURCES; TO MEET EMERGENCY CASH FLOW NEEDS AND OTHER SITUATIONS; AND TO FINANCE EQUIPMENT PURCHASES.
