Briefly describe the organization’s mission: Western Energy Alliance is an organization of individuals and businesses dedicated to more efficiently exploring, developing, and producing oil and natural gas using environmentally-sound methods,(Continued on Schedule O)promoting their beneficial uses, and economic, environmental and energy security solutions, and providing representation, information, and education on issues affecting the industry at local, state and federal levels.

Advocacy - Western Energy Alliance supports policy reform that encourages job growth, investment and timely access to Western federal lands in order to turn our enormous energy and economic potential into reality through responsible development of America's abundant Western oil and natural gas.

Special Initiatives and Projects - Western Energy Alliance is supporting a scientific study in Utah's Uinta Basin to determine the effect of industrial emissions, weather conditions, and photochemical reactions on winter ozone formation. The Alliance also has special initiatives to support our Utah Representative, comment on EPA's Tribal NSR rule, and challenge the science the Fish & Wildlife Service is using in its Greater Sage Grouse listing decision.

Membership Services - Membership dollars fund critical advocacy programs that promote demand for oil and natural gas as well as protect supply at regional and federal levels. Call-Up, annual meeting, and other regional opportunities to directly work with and influence decision makers in government.

Part X, Line 2: Management believes that it has appropriate support for any tax positions taken and that none would require recognition of a liability or disclosure in the financial statements. The Alliance is subject to routine audits by taxing authorities; however, there are currently no audits in progress for any tax periods. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 12c All voting board members and management are asked to complete conflict of interest statements on an annual basis. Potential conflicts are reviewed by the board and management before action is taken.
Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 15 Seven independent board members including the Chairman, a Vice Chairman, and two former Chairmen comprise the compensation committee. None of these board members have a conflict of interest as defined in the regulations. The board members of the committee evaluated the compensation for all employees of the organization. In establishing the total compensation amounts, they reviewed data for similarly qualified persons in functionally comparable positions at similarly situated trade and other associations. In addition, they considered overall industry employment conditions because of their relevance. All of these factors were considered in the final determination of the compensation amounts and were contemporaneously documented and retained.
