THE INSTITUTE OF MEDICINE WAS ESTABLISHED UNDER THE CONGRESSONAL CHARTER OF THE NAS IN 1970. THE NATIONAL ACADEMY OF ENGINEERING (NAE) WAS ESTABLISHED UNDER THE CONGRESSIONAL CHARTER OF THE NAS IN 1964.
