| Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4a: | Virginia Rep Center is the hub of the Richmond revitalized Arts District. With a 100+ year history and cultural impact on the City, Virginia Rep Center operates as a museum, and is a member of the Virginia Association of Museums. Virginia Repertory Theatre offers two mainstage seasons to adult audiences. The Signature Season, at the Historic November Theatre in downtown Richmond, 114 W. Broad Street, offers the great dramas, comedies and musicals of the past, present and future. This allows Virginia Rep to fulfill its educational mission by presenting great work that is not available in the commercial sector, keeping the art of theatre alive for generations to come. Virginia Rep's Barksdale Season, at the Historic Hanover Tavern, at Hanover Courthouse, Virginia, offers lighter fare to adult audiences. While experienced theatre goers are attracted to Signature Season, newer or less adventurous patrons may be more at-home attending our country playhouse. The productions created for the Barksdale Season are taken from the roster of "great plays", but they are also presented with a lighter, more accessible touch. |
| Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4b: | During each school year, Virginia Repertory Theatre's national program "Theatre IV on Tour" produces and presents approximately twenty touring instructional programs using the art form of theatre to support students' studies across the of curricula in grades K-12. Theatre IV on Tour has presented performances in every school district in the Commonwealth of Virginia, and in Fiscal Year 2015 performed in twenty-nine other states. Virginia Rep's Children's Theatre season is comprised of non-touring theatrical productions presented for children, families and schools at our intimate stage setting at the Shops at Willow Lawn, 1601 West Broad Street, Richmond, Virginia. Each play is selected to complement the instructional components offered in Virginia's schools, including the required Virginia Standards of Learning ("SOLs") as well as family values espoused by Virginia parents. |
| Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4c: | Our internationally-acclaimed Community outreach and Educational efforts substantially relate to the children's health component of our Mission. Plays like "Hugs and Kisses" (child sexual abuse prevention), "Walking the Line" (alcohol and other drug abuse prevention), and "Dancing in the Dark" (adolescent pregnancy prevention and sexual responsibility) offer compelling and effective safety messages to Virginia's students in grades K-12. Annually serving over 200,000 local children, teens, and adults, we connect with underserved constituencies through Community Partnerships, including a recent initiative, FIELD (Family Involvement in Early Literacy Development) a program for parents and pre-school children, providing reading readiness activities. Our Bifocals Theatre Project, which serves artists and audiences age 55 and older, tours one-act productions tailored for senior audiences no longer able to come to traditional theatres. Virginia Rep provides several free or pay-what-you-can programs, such as Tickets For Kids, and Tom Tix (senior tickets), to enable patrons of all economic situations to enjoy theatre. These ventures--and other community service initiatives--extend the positive benefits of live theatre to non-traditional audiences. |

| Form 990, Part XII, Line 2c | Virginia Repertory Theatre's Finance Committee assists Management in selecting qualified auditors for consideration. Two or three qualified firms are selected, then considered and then asked to submit proposals. Several factors are considered by Management which makes recommendations to the Board of Directors. These factors include, but are not limited to, cost, experience in working with mid-sized nonprofits, and an ability to complete the audit on a timely basis. The Board of Directors then chooses a firm after discussion of these factors. Typically, Virginia Repertory Theatre completes this process every two to three years, or annually, when necessary. |
