IN 2002, THE SHERIFF'S FOUNDATION OF BROWARD COUNTY (SFBC) RECEIVED A 2 MILLION FEDERAL AWARD TO FUND REGION 7 OF THE REGIONAL DOMESTIC SECURITY TASK FORCE. THE SHERIFF'S FOUNDATION IS TASKED TO OVERSEE THE EXPENDITURE OF FUNDS SPECIFICALLY DONATED FOR USE BY THE DOMESTIC SECURITY TASK FORCE PURSUANT TO FLORIDA STATUTE SECTION 943.0312. OVER THE YEARS, THE SHERIFF'S FOUNDATION HAS FUNDED OVER 700,000.00 IN INITIATIVES AND NEW EQUIPMENT IN FURTHERANCE OF THE STATUTORY MISSION. ANNUAL CONFERENCE DOMESTIC COUNTER TERRORISM: EVERY YEAR, SFBC FUNDS A COUNTER TERRORISM CONFERENCE FOR THE INTELLIGENCE UNIT OF REGION 7 OF THE DOMESTIC SECURITY TASK FORCE. THESE CONFERENCES ARE AN ESSENTIAL STEP IN THE COORDINATION OF COUNTER INTELLIGENCE RESOURCES FOR THE PREVENTION OF, AND EFFECTIVE RESPONSE TO TERRORIST ACTS IN SOUTH FLORIDA. -COLLECT AND MANAGE DONATIONS TO MEMORIAL FUNDS FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE SURVIVING FAMILIES OF BROWARD SHERIFF'S DEPUTIES AND FIRE RESCUE PERSONNEL KILLED IN THE LINE OF DUTY; SINCE 1999, THE SHERIFF'S FOUNDATION OF BROWARD COUNTY (SFBC) HAS BEEN INSTRUMENTAL IN THE LIVES OF THE SURVIVING FAMILY MEMBERS OF FALLEN BSO DEPUTIES AND FIRE FIGHTERS. ONE OF THE PILLARS OF SFBC'S MISSION IS TO PROVIDE MORAL AND FINANCIAL SUPPORT TO THE FAMILIES OF THOSE KILLED IN THE LINE OF DUTY. SFBC ALSO OVERSEES MEMORIAL FUNDS CREATED BY INDIVIDUALS TO FUND AND SUPPORT SPECIAL BSO PROGRAMS FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE COMMUNITY. FALLEN HEROES FUND: SFBC PROVIDES HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE TO THE FAMILIES AND LOVED ONES AT THE TIME OF DEATH OF A DEPUTY OR FIRE-RESCUE OFFICER AND TO HELP THE FAMILIES WITH FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS IF NECESSARY. DISASTER RELIEF FUND: THIS FUND PROVIDES AID TO PUBLIC SAFETY OFFICES IN BROWARD COUNTY WHICH HAVE SUFFERED NATIONAL DISASTERS AND AIDING BSO EMPLOYEES WHO ARE THE VICTIMS OF LOCAL DISASTERS. DISBURSEMENTS ARE MADE IN ACCORDANCE WITH FEDERAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY (FEMA) AND INTERNAL REVENUE SERVICES (IRS) REGULATIONS REGARDING DISASTER ASSISTANCE. FINANCIAL AID IS DETERMINED BY A COMMITTEE CONSISTING OF THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE FOUNDATION, THE CHAIRMAN OF THE FOUNDATION, THE CHAPLAIN OF BSO, A REPRESENTATIVE OF THE BSO HUMAN RESOURCES DEPARTMENT, AND A BSO REPRESENTATIVE OF THE SHERIFF.
