| Form 990, Part III, Line 4a | Zambia, with a population of 15,000,000 ranks low on the Human Development Index-- 139th out of 188 countries. Life in Zambia is difficult. For women and girls, these problems are compounded by gender-based discrimination and violence that too often robs them of a bright future. In 2015 Golf Fore Africa provided increased access to sustainable and safe water to 13,000 poor and vulnerable school children and people living in rural communities. Our implementing partner World Vision drilled boreholes, rehabilitated water points, formed water committees, and trained community members in pump maintenance and repairs. We increased access to improved sanitation by constructing VIP latrines, and training community members in sanitation practices. GFA staff and board members visited Zambia 2 times in 2015 to dedicate wells funded by GFA and visit communities. |
| Form 990, Part III, Line 4b | Golf Fore Africa is working with the World Vision Strong Women Strong World group to bring hope to women and girls through a unique program developed to address the needs identified by the women and girls themselves and the government of Zambia. The two components of this program are access to education and livelihood, both of which offer a chance for a brighter future and the opportunity to break the cycle of poverty. Golf Fore Africa believes that helping girls receive an education, specifically secondary and college, will open doors for a brighter future. Primary and secondary education give girls and young women tools to alleviate poverty, as schooling will help them earn higher wages and make improved life choices, such as delayed marriage. Girls in ERE safe house in Zambia were provided with golf shirts donated from US Open to World Vision ERE Program. |
| Form 990, Part III, Line 4c | 300 Professional and amateur golfers played in Golf Fore Africa charity golf events in 2015. The events were used to raise funds and awareness within the golf community of the need for clean water in Africa. 575 influential women attended luncheons hosted by Golf Fore Africa Strong Women Strong World in Arizona and California. Attendees were introduced to the work Golf Fore Africa is doing to address water crisis in Africa. Guest speakers Charity Wallace, Kristen Tetteh and Mercy Niwe shared the importance of clean water for women and girls in Africa. Attendees were given the opportunity to invest into the lives of girls and women in Africa by partnering with Golf Fore Africa. Golf Fore Africa was an event sponsor of the New York City 11th Annual Strong Women Strong World luncheon. There were 275 people in attendance for an inspirational summit and lunch. Betsy King and Debbie Quesada spoke at a summit for women leaders prior to the luncheon. |
| Form 990, Part III, Line 4d | Golf Fore Africa board member Debbie Quesada attended a Water Conference in Ethiopia Africa to study best practices and learn more about global water crisis. 150 college golfers raised money for clean water during a college invitational at Furman University. 700 Hope Kits, filled with hygiene products, were assembled at the Strong Women Strong World events and were donated to local womens shelters in Arizona and California. Debbie Quesada and Betsy King serve on the National Leadership Council for World Vision. Debbie served on a steering committee for World Visions major fundraising campaign. Betsy King spoke at various events throughout the year to educate golfers and students on the global water crisis. Four LPGA professional golfers traveled to Africa with the charity in December to dedicate wells funded by fans and social media in 2015. A full page article was published in the USA Today about the trip. Board member Jim McInnis walked 500 miles to raise support and awareness for GFA. |
