The American Legion Department of Colorado (American Legion) had 21,060 members at the end of the year. During the year the American Legion holds two major conventions/conferences for its members as well as other events and conferences throughout the year. These conferences and events provide education and information on specific topics of Americanism and determine Legion policy. The American Legion published the Colorado Legionnaire and the Observer only once during the year since it is available on their web site. A total of $416,253 was spent on conferences, the Observer, printing and payments to affiliates for the members.

Grantmaker's Description of How Grants are Used The American Legion spends monies on grocery gift cards, computers and software for veteran's education. The gift cards are given to referrals from the Vet Center and the Colorado Division of Veteran Affairs or to veterans that can prove service with a DD214. We track the grocery gift cards by filling out a form reflecting the veteran's name, who referred them and the dollar amount given. A photo copy of the gift cards is done and attached to each veteran's form. During 2014, The American Legion Department of Colorado received $20,000 from the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs. Of the proceeds received in 2014, $18,477 were donated to the Volunteers of America Veteran's Program construction costs. In 2015, the balance of the proceeds ($1,523) were donated to the same project.During 2013, The American Legion Department of Colorado received $6,800 to assist flood victims of which $5,000 were given to Post 18 during 2014 to assist with flood victims. No funds were given out in 2015.
