THIS FUNDING SUPPORTS THE MISSION OF SOUTHERN RI VOLUNTEERS BY PROVIDING FOOD DELIVERIES TO THE FRAIL AND ELDERLY, TRANSPORTATION TO MEDICAL APPOINTMENTS, GROCERY STORES, AND FRIENDLY VISITS TO ALLEVIATE ISOLATION. ALSO SUPPORTING THE COMMUNITY THROUGH DISASTER PREPAREDNESS TEAM, COACH OR MENTOR FOR CHILDREN, OR PROVIDING VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES AT HOSPITALS, SCHOOLS, MUSEUMS, AND MANY OTHER NON-PROFTIS IN RHODE ISLAND. | FORM 990-EZ, PART III, LINE 31 | WE HAD THE PLEASURE OF PARTNERING WITH THE INTERACT CLUB AND JONNYCAKE CENTER TO PACK CHRISTMAS BASKETS OF TOYS AND PRESENTS FOR THOSE LESS FORTUNATE IN OUR COMMUNITY. WE CONDUCTED A JOINT MEETING WITH OUR PARTNER CLUBS OF WAKEFIELD, JAMESTOWN, NORTH KINGSTOWN AND EAST GREENWICH TO ATTEND A DISCUSSION ON CANCER CARE IN OUR COMMUNITY AND TO SUPPORT THE EFFORTS OF SOUTH COUNTY HEALTH IN EXPANDING THEIR PROGRAM. WE HAD OVER 55 DONORS CONTINUE TO SUPPORT OUR COMMUNITY COURTYARD PROJECT AT THE HIGH SCHOOL. OUR WONDERFUL INTERACT CLUB HAD A PHENOMENAL YEAR AND HAS BEEN AWARDED THE PRESETIGOUS PRESIDENTIAL CITATION FROM THE ROTARY DISTRICT GOVERNOR. WE HAD THE GOOD FORTUNE OF HAVING A NUMBER OF SUCCESSFUL FUNDRAISERS THAT ALLOWED US TO PROVIDE SUPPORT FOR SOME GREAT LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS THAT PROVIDE AMAZING SERVICES TO OUR COMMUNITIES. ORGANIZATIONS LIKE THE JONNYCAKE CENTER, THE OCEAN COMMUNITY YMCA, SOUTHERN RI VOLUNTEERS, THE RAINBOW FUND FOR MENTAL ILLNESS EDUCATION AND THE RI FREE HEALTH CLINIC. WE ALSO HAD AN AMAZING GALA, CO-SPONSORED BY OUR PARTNERS AT WOOD RIVER HEALTH SERVICES. IT WAS A GREAT NIGHT, THROUGH THE LEADERSHIP OF OUR ROTARIANS. THE RESULT WAS OVER 16,000 IN FUNDS THAT WAS SHARED BETWEEN THE CLUB AND WOOD RIVER TO CONTINUE THEIR AMAZING WORK IN OUR COMMUNITY. THE CLUB ALSO FOCUSED ON EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT AND ENDEAVORS WITH 5,000 TO COMMUNITY 2000 IN SUPPORT OF TEACHER GRANTS AND 1,000 TO THE HUMANITIES PROGRAM AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL. THIS RESULTED IN AN OUTSTANDING PROGRAM OF THE ANNUAL FALL FESTIVAL, AN AMAZING POETRY PROGRAM, AND A HUMANITIES MAGAZINE HIGHLIGHTING THE TALENTED ARTISTS, POETS, AND STORY-TELLERS WHO ARE THE STUDENTS OF OUR COMMUNITY. WE PROVIDED TUTION ASSISTANCE TO THE TECHNICAL SCHOOL STUDENTS WHO COMPETED AT THE NATIONAL SKILLS USA COMPTETITION. THESE STUDENTS HAVE PLACED IN THE TOP 10 NATIONALLY IN A NUMBER OF AREAS. LAST, BUT NOT LEAST, WE HAVE SUPPORTED OUR STUDENTS IN THEIR QUEST FOR HIGHER EDUCATION. IT IS A PROGRAM BUILT ON THE FOUNDATION OF SERVICE TO OTHERS. WE LOOK FOR STUDENTS TO SUPPORT WHO ESPOUSE THE IDEALS OF ROTARY AND WILL CONTINUE TO DO SO OVER THEIR FOUR YEARS. WE AWARDED OVER 16,000 LAST YEAR. |
