| Form 990, Part III, Line 4a - Program Description: | The ministry of KSBJ has been impacting lives for Jesus Christ since 1981. KSBJ's mission is to be the Voice of Hope Connecting People to God, and we accomplish that mission through our on-air broadcasting, mentoring program, community outreach, and prayer initiatives. Because we are listener-supported, we are able to concentrate on creating the kind of radio that ministers to and encourages our listeners. Our programming is designed to fill the airwaves (both traditional and digital) with messages of the faith, hope, and love we have in Jesus Christ. KSBJ's core values reflect not only who we are and how we operate internally, but they also reflect the true heart of the ministry. KSBJ Core Values: We're Passionate for Christ... We are a people of prayer, faithfully devoted to being led by Christ. He is our passion and the source of our purpose. We will continually seek to follow (be filled by) Him and demonstrate His character in all we do. We Love People... We value authentic relationships and choose to see people through Jesus' eyes, embracing their uniqueness, loving them the way God loves us. We Serve Others...It's our joy to generously serve and meet needs in the name of Jesus. Using our gifts, talents and resources with integrity we seek to minister to the body of Christ, our community and the world. Together We're Better...We are a spiritual family on a journey to impact lives for Christ. We depend on one another understanding that where one is weak the other is strong, and that's okay, because "God arranges parts of the body - every one of them - just as He wants them to be" Our volunteers, board of directors (also volunteers), and staff hold each other to high standards and live out our core values daily. It takes an army of volunteers to support the ministry of KSBJ. We utilized approximately 2,900 volunteers giving over 11,700 hours of their time in various roles throughout the year. KSBJ Broadcasting: KSBJ broadcasting is sharing the message of hope found in a relationship with Jesus Christ. We broadcast to an average audience of over 750,000 listeners on a weekly basis in Houston and the surrounding Gulf Coast region. Our web streaming (www.ksbj.org and www.ngenradio.com) and mobile apps provide a way for people to listen anywhere in the world on any device with internet access. We receive numerous calls, emails, and social media posts from all over the world with people sharing how much encouragement and hope the ministry has given them. Here are just a couple of examples of the emails we receive: "I just wanted to say thank you for all you guys and for the music. I listen to you during my work day and more than once this month when it felt as though the walls are closing in and my stress level went up the 'right' song comes on and I can breathe! God is so amazing, His timing is so perfect!" "I have listened to KSBJ for over 14 years now, and it has been the rock to my salvation and faith. As far as taking the challenge, I try to encourage everyone to listen to KSBJ, because it can truly change a person's heart, mind, and soul!" "I am 18 years young & I just wanted to let you know that I haven't been such a good Christian but after listening to this station & going to tonight's NGEN concert, it makes me want to be a better Christian. I just want to thank you for that. You guys music makes me want to change for the better." In addition to the encouraging music played by KSBJ and NGEN, all of the on-air content shares hope, shines His light and ministers to the hearts of the hurting. Some of the on-air messaging this past year included: - Love That Sticks - Throughout February, we talked about unconditional love. God's love is unconditional and nothing can separate us from it - now that's the kind of LOVE THAT STICKS! (1 John 4:9-11) Our listeners blanketed the Gulf Coast with encouraging post it notes to spread God's love! We heard from thousands of listeners expressing the positive impact this campaign had on our lives and their community. Also, over 13,000 subscribed to the KSBJ text list to receive "Love Notes" during this outreach campaign. - Choose Joy - This Christmas, KSBJ invited listeners to Choose Joy by focusing on the true meaning of Christmas, God's unconditional love for us through sending His son, Jesus. From the reminder of lost loved ones to the stress of financial struggles, the Christmas season can bring an array of difficult emotions. To help our listeners deepen their relationship with Him, KSBJ created the "Joy Pledge" to remind them of their commitment to choose joy. Over 1,000 listeners downloaded the Joy Pledge to print at home or share on their social media channels. And, over 8,000 listeners subscribed to the Christmas text campaign! - NGEN's Be A Better You - As listeners started off the new year with goals to make their lives better, NGEN encouraged them to refocus to how this "Better You" should reflect Christ to the world through giving back to others and being self-less. KSBJ Education/Mentoring: Educational and mentoring programs are an integral part of KSBJ's ministry. KSBJ provides Biblically based educational programming designed to educate, train, encourage, and develop our listeners in areas of financial stewardship, spiritual growth and maturity, strengthening marriage and family relationships, health and wellness, issues impacting Christian worldviews, etc. The KSBJ bimonthly newsletter serves as an educational outreach to over 100,000 recipients. The educational content on the KSBJ and NGEN websites and numerous social media channels have well over 5,000,000 views/hits annually. The KSBJ mentoring program walked along side of several domestic and international radio ministries sharing the knowledge we have gained in over 30 years of broadcasting experience. Our domestic mentoring relationships include stations in Texas, New York, Washington DC, California, Virginia, Michigan and Arkansas. Our international mentoring relationships include ministries in East Asia & the Pacific and in Europe. You can learn more about the KSBJ Mentoring program at: http://www.ksbj.org/about/pages/mentoring KSBJ Community Outreach: KSBJ is committed to giving back to the community and building unity in the body of Christ through our community outreach efforts. As the Voice of Hope, KSBJ raises awareness, rallies support, and connects people with local ministries and charitable organizations. Here are a few highlights from the past year: - Operation Backpack- In July, KSBJ encouraged our listeners to donate to YMCA Operation Backpack which allows students to start the school year with the tools they need to be successful. This partnership resulted in over 90,000 new backpacks with school supplies being delivered to Gulf Coast area kids. - Giving Tree- In November, KSBJ again invited listeners to share hope and joy with families in need for the holidays. Launched over 20 years ago, the KSBJ Giving Tree connects needy families to individuals who would like to help meet those needs and further share the love of Christ at Christmas. With the help of our listeners, we were able to meet 3,076 needs for over 500 families in the Greater Houston Area. - Operation Christmas Child - Although making a lasting impact in a child's life may sound like an incredibly hard task, NGEN made it possible through Operation Christmas Child. NGEN listeners across the country packed shoe boxes for children around the globe. The children that received these boxes are forever changed and many find a relationship with God through this small act of love! Just in time for Christmas. KSBJ Prayer Initiatives: At KSBJ, we believe that God listens. We have many opportunities and resources for you to be prayed for and for you to pray for others. It is our desire to cultivate an authentic community of Christ followers who are passionate about prayer and who want to grow deeper in their relationship with Christ. Over the past year, KSBJ has received over 35,000 prayer requests through our various prayer channels and rejoiced for over 670 people who dedicated their lives to Jesus Christ this year. Our partnership with Harris County Sheriff's Office has been tremendous. Our new numbers indicate we've ministered to over 26,400 people. We've seen the compassionate hand of God touching families who have loved ones incarcerated. Through PrayerWorks our listeners are praying for people around the globe whom they may never meet this side of heaven, yet the prayers and praises continue daily. Each month, an average of 950 prayers are submitted and those receive on average 10,200 responses from people indicating they will be praying for them.
