The project will assess participants in a Jesuit Ignatian 30-day retreat. The purpose of the unique contemplative retreat is to create an entirely new understanding of the individual's spiritual life. The investigative team will focus on changes in neurotransmitter systems, dopamine transporter activity and serotonin transporter activity, in addition to subjective measures associated with positive transformation. They will examine longitudinal changes of the participants and correlations with the changes due to the spiritual activity. The investigative team will assess 20 participants prior to the 30-day retreat and just after the retreat. |
