There are negotiations on going for Athol Hospital, Cambridge Hospital, Somerville Hospital, and Whidden Hospital of the Cambridge Health Alliance system as well as Tobey Hospital of the South Coast System and we are beginning bargaining for a number of facilities as well. Additionally the association was able to pass a first in the nation statute limiting the number of patients that can be assigned to a nurse in an ICU setting in any Massachusetts Hospital. Two other states carry such limit for patient safety through regulation - MNA was successful in implementing it as a statute in Massachusetts law. This was done by engaging in a ballot initiative process. This was a first experience for the organization and now provides the association with an additional vehicle/strategy to move the membership's goals on behalf of their patients. We continue to work on new organizing campaigns and aggressively pursue contract enforcement as well as engaging on issues of advocacy for the profession and for patients in our care.

	Division of Public Communications, Legislative and Governmental Affairs . Division of Public Communications continued its ongoing efforts to educate and mobilize membership about MNA activities and programs, with similar efforts launched to educate and mobilize the general public and nursing community to support for a variety of issues related to nursing, safe patient care, health care reform initiatives as well as issues related to our union contract campaigns. Special emphasis in 2015 was devoted to the provision of comprehensive marketing communications support to educate members about a new law that sets safe patient limits for nurses working in acute care hospital ICUs. . The Department of Legislation and Government Affairs continued working on the Legislative Agenda for the Association. This included attending hearings, meetings with legislators, lobby days and many literature drops up at the State House. Special attention was focused in late 2014 and 2015 on the implementation of the Association's ICU staffing law which was passed in June 2014. This included attending regulatory hearings and providing commentary throughout the regulatory process. In addition the division monitors and tracks all legislation relative to health care and nursing and attends hearings and/or meets with legislators either in support or opposition.
