IN 2010 THIS PROGRAM RECEIVED A MN SOCIETY FOR ARBORICULTURE AWARD, IN 2011 RECEIVED A CITY TREE TEAM AWARD FROM THE ARBOR DAY FOUNDATION, AND IN 2012 WAS HONORED WITH A NATIONAL AWARD FOR VOLUNTEER MANAGEMENT FROM THE ARBOR DAY FOUNDATION. 2015 WAS A STRONG YEAR OF GROWTH FOR THIS PROGRAM. NEIGHBORWOODS WERE MADE A LITTLE GREENER THANKS TO 496 RNEIGHBORWOODS VOLUNTEERS AND PARTNERS WHO PLANTED 496 BOULEVARD TREES IN 2015. THAT IS OVER 1,338 VOLUNTEER HOURS DEDICATED TO THE ROCHESTER URBAN FOREST. AFTER TAKING 2014 OFF FROM LARGE COMMUNITY TREE PLANTINGS, WE GOT BACK ON SCHEDULE THIS YEAR WITH TWO COMMUNITY TREE PLANTINGS IN THE SE NEIGHBORHOOD AROUND 16TH AVENUE SE, SLATTERLY PARK AND SUNNYSIDE NEIGHBORHOODS, AS WELL AS TWO GRANT PLANTINGS IN THE PINE SUMMIT AND THE NORTHWEST NEIGHBORHOODS. 66 VOLUNTEERS TOOK THE CITIZEN FORESTER CLASSES OFFERED IN THE FALL AND THE SPRING. THANKS TO A GRANT FROM THE ALLIANCE FOR COMMUNITY TREES WE WERE ABLE TO WORK WITH A PROFESSIONAL VIDEOGRAPHER AT OUR BIG SPRING PLANTING TO ASSEMBLE A VIDEO ABOUT THE RNEIGHBORWOODS PROGRAM. |
| FORM 990-EZ, PART III, LINE 29 | A LITTER BIT BETTER (LBB) (EST. 2007): RNEIGHBORS SERVES AS THE FISCAL AGENT TO LBB AND PARTNERS WITH THE CITY OF ROCHESTER AND MANY OTHERS AGENCIES AND ORGANIZATIONS IN THIS PROGRAM. THIS CITY-WIDE LITTER CLEANUP PROGRAM IS COMPLETED DURING ONE WEEK IN APRIL. LBB ENJOYS PARTICIPATION ACROSS MANY SECTORS IN THE COMMUNITY INCLUDING SCHOOLS, SERVICE AND FAITH GROUPS, SCOUT TROOPS, BUSINESSES, AND OF COURSE, ROCHESTER NEIGHBORHOODS. IN 2015, OVER 18,000 POUNDS OF TRASH AND 3,700 POUNDS OF RECYCLING WERE COLLECTED THIS YEAR BY VOLUNTEERS (10.85 TONS). 220 GROUPS REGISTERED FOR THE LITTER BIT BETTER EVENT, APPROXIMATELY 3,250 VOLUNTEERS. GROUPS CONSISTED OF A WIDE RANGE OF FOLKS INCLUDING SCOUTS, FAITH-BASED & SERVICE ORGANIZATIONS, BUSINESSES, SCHOOLS, AND NEIGHBORS. VOLUNTEERS PICKED UP AT OVER 239 COLLECTION SITES IN ROCHESTER COVERING CLOSE TO 5,300 ACRES OF LAND. THE MOST COMMON TYPE OF LITTER REPORTED WAS PLASTIC BOTTLES, PLASTIC BAGS, FAST FOOD PACKAGING, AND CIGARETTE BUTTS. |
| FORM 990-EZ, PART III, LINE 30 | NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATIONS (NAS): ESTABLISHED AS A NONPROFIT IN 2001, RNEIGHBORS WORKS TO BRING NEIGHBORS TOGETHER TO ASSIST NEIGHBORHOODS WITH TOOLS AND RESOURCES TO KEEP THEIR ORGANIZATIONS STRONG AND HEALTHY. EACH OF OUR PROGRAMS AND PARTNERSHIPS WORK TOWARDS GETTING NEIGHBORS OUT OF THEIR HOUSES TO INTERACT AND DEVELOP RELATIONSHIPS. THERE ARE CURRENTLY 45 REGISTERED NAS IN ROCHESTER. NEWEST MEMBERS OF REGISTERED GROUPS INCLUDE 19TH AVENUE SW, DOWNTOWN, AND VALHALLA PARK CONDOMINIUMS. IN 2015 THE RNEIGHBORS BOARD HEARD UPDATES FROM TEN DIFFERENT NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATIONS. THE MAYO CLINIC DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT REQUESTED THAT RNEIGHBORS PRESENT A SUMMARY OF WHAT OUR ORGANIZATION DOES. NOT ONLY DID WE EXPLAIN WHAT OUR NONPROFIT DOES BUT WE INCORPORATED SIX DIFFERENT NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATIONS AND HIGHLIGHTED THE DIFFERENT PERSONALITIES AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF EACH. FACILITATED BY RNEIGHBORS, THE MAYOR'S COUNCIL OF NEIGHBORHOODS CONTINUE TO MEET EVERY MONTH. MADE UP OF NEIGHBORHOOD LEADERS FROM 15 DIFFERENT ASSOCIATIONS, THE MISSION OF THIS GROUP IS TO STRENGTHEN CONNECTIONS BETWEEN ROCHESTER NEIGHBORHOOD LEADERS AND GIVE NEIGHBORHOODS A COLLECTIVE VOICE. OVER 150 HOURS OF VOLUNTEER TIME WAS SPENT ON LEARNING AND SHARING NEIGHBORHOOD RELATED INFORMATION. IN 2015 THE GROUP HEARD MEETING TOPICS OF DMC, OLMSTED COUNTY HOUSING, PLANNING & ZONING, PUBLIC HEALTH, POLICE DEPARTMENT AND ROCHESTERFEST. SUCCESSES OF THE GROUP INCLUDED CROSS- NEIGHBORHOOD EFFORTS,15 DIFFERENT NAS IN ATTENDANCE, DEVELOPMENT OF AN RNEIGHBORS SPEAKERS BUREAU, THE NEIGHBORHOOD PROJECT GRANTS, AND "A CITIZEN'S GUIDE WORKING WITH THE CITY COUNCIL AND THE PLANNING & ZONING COMMISSION" WHICH WAS A COLLABORATIVE EFFORT BETWEEN CITY DEPARTMENTS AND RNEIGHBORS. AS AN ORGANIZATION, RNEIGHBORS CONTINUED TO RAISE THE PROFILES OF NEIGHBORHOOD ORGANIZATIONS IN 2015 BY HONORING OUTSTANDING NEIGHBORS AT THE OAKTOBERFEST NEIGHBOR AWARDS, PROVIDING MEETING SIGNS FOR SEVERAL NEIGHBORHOODS, AND WORKING TO PROVIDE RESOURCES FOR ROCHESTER NEIGHBORHOODS THROUGH ALL OF OUR PARTNERSHIPS AND COLLABORATIONS SUCH AS THE ROCHESTERFEST PARADE, NATIONAL NIGHT OUT, AND THROUGH OUR WEBSITE RNEIGHBORS.ORG. |
