Return Reference Explanation
Part X, Line 2: The Chapter is exempt from Federal income taxes under Section 501(c)(4) of the Internal Revenue Code, and is not a private foundation within the meaning of Section 509(c) of the Code. Accordingly, no provision has been made for income taxes in the accompanying financial statement. All income received and recorded during the year was related to the Chapter's tax-exempt purpose. The provisions included in accounting principles generally accepted in the United States of America provide consistent guidance for the accounting of uncertainty in income taxes recognized in an entity's financial statements and prescribe a threshold of "more likely than not" for recognition of tax positions taken or expected to be taken in a tax return. The Chapter performed an evaluation of uncertain tax positions as of April 30, 2016, and determined that there were no matters that would require recognition in the financial statements or, which may have any effect on its tax-exempt status. As of April 30, 2016, the statute of limitations for fiscal years 2012 through 2015 remains open with the U.S. Federal jurisdiction or the various state and local jurisdictions in which the Chapters files tax returns.

Part I, Line 2: Scholarships are awarded on an achievement/merit basis. Students write an essay on the topic chosen for the corresponding year, submit letters of reference, submit a high school transcript and submit the application. The book awards are given to recipients in subsequent years if they attain a 3.0 or higher each year. The transcript is attached to the voucher given to the treasurer to document the student performed.
