The Miss Washington Scholarship Organization is an official preliminary to Miss America and oversees the operation of local preliminary and state pageants. 20 young women competed for the title of Miss Washington. Statewide over 150 local contestants competed for local titles. Scholarships are awarded at the state and local level. The program promotes higher education and community service on a local, state, and national level.

Return Reference Explanation
Part I, Line 2: Cash Scholarships and prizes are awarded to the contestants. The teen contestants receive cash awards based on how they did in the teen pageant. Those cash awards are paid upon completion of the pageant. On the Miss side, there is a pageant held each year called the sweeper pageant and the winners and 1st runner up all receive scholarships. In order to request the scholarship funds that are awarded, the contestants must fill out a request form and provide documentation statements and invoices from the school in which the contestant is enrolled. If the funds are to pay on a student loan, they need to provide a current bill from the institution which must show the account number, a copy of the promissory note showing the contestant as the primary or secondary payer of the loan along with an official transcript which shows the completion of the course work. Checks are made payable directly to the school or the lending institution.
