| Form 990, Part III, Line 1 | Background and Mission: Mary's Woods is a 501(c)(3) continuing care retirement community (CCRC). It was established in 1997 and opened in 2001 as a ministry of the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary. Mary's Woods mission is an extension of the heritage of the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary, that is to provide a continuum of housing, health and educational services to ensure the full development of every individual at each stage of life. It currently has a resident population of approximately 468 individuals. Age eligibility for entry is limited to those 62 years of age or older. The vast majority of Mary's Woods residents live independently in the 283 apartments and villas. As part of its continuing care commitment, Mary's Woods also supports a health care center which houses approximately 101 residents in assisted living, skilled nursing. residential care and memory care programs. Services: Mary's Woods provides an array of program services to its resident population. These services include: independent and supported housing; health care support through the Marie Rose health care center, wellness programming, educational, social and cultural activities and pastoral care. Additionally, Mary's Woods offers services and activities to non-residents living in the surrounding community including but not limited to: home care services that support an individual's independence, musical concerts, talks, art displays, and transportation via a shuttle service supported through a grant. Mary's Woods has a full array of well developed support services which includes: leadership team consisting of CEO, COO/CFO, Mission Director, marketing and sales, finance, environmental services, dining services, nursing and home care services, resident relations/services and transportation and human resources. Beginning in fiscal year 2012-2013, Mary's Woods began expanding its fundraising services to continue to carry out the organization's mission. Mary's Woods is a caring community inspired by the vision and values of the Sisters, providing a continuum of housing, health and educational services. The Community responds to the Gospel's vision of full development for every individual at each life stage. The Community seeks to ensure the dignity, independence, well-being and security of older persons through the provision of a range of services and educational options. An array of services enriches the physical, emotional and spiritual well-being of each resident, employee and all others affiliated with the Community. Rooted in Catholic, ethical values, the Community is characterized by a commitment to: an environment of beauty, a celebration of life, hospitality and compassion, reverence and integrity, a spirit of service and the exploration of the journey of aging. Mary's Woods lives out its core values of respect, compassion, excellence, stewardship and justice in a spirit of service by being a welcoming, caring and generous community. As a mission driven, not-for-profit organization, Mary's Woods has the privilege of enhancing the lives of both those who live and work on the campus and those residing in the broader community. Mary's Woods accepts charitable contributions for five funds: (1) Resident Assistance, (2) Employee Education, (3) Innovation, (4) Capital Projects and Improvements and (5) Greater Need. These funds help us serve our mission. For example, the Resident Assistance Fund helps residents who, through no fault of their own, face difficulties meeting their basic monthly costs. In these instances, the fund serves as a safety net. Knowing the Resident Assistance Fund is there to help when needed provides the community with a profound sense of security. Outreach into the local community is also part of the Mary's Woods commitment to mission and values. Utilizing the Innovation Fund, Mary's Woods has entered into a partnership with Northwest Housing Alternatives (NHA) to help those seniors living on a fixed income who may encounter barriers to getting the care they need in order to thrive in their environment. This program is designed to help offset the cost of home care services for qualified NHA residents needing assistance with tasks such as cooking, cleaning, bathing and medications. This partnership helps NHA seniors age with dignity at home, and enables Mary's Woods staff and residents to fulfill the mission to serve the broader community. Mary's Woods has also developed the employee giving campaign (EGC), an employee initiative born out of a desire to create meaningful opportunities for staff members to work together while giving back to the broader community. The program offers multiple ways to participate, including volunteering at an event, giving to a charity or making a financial contribution to the EGC fund. Some of the recent accomplishments of the committee include: donating services to the Oregon Food Bank, sponsoring a blood drive, participating in a beach clean-up project, adopting a family during the holidays, and collecting school supplies for children in need. The EGC is run solely by employees volunteering their time and talents. |
