Briefly describe the organization’s mission: The mission of the Northern Canola Growers Association is to promote and encourage the establishment and maintenance of conditions favorable to the production, marketing, processing, research, and use of canola; to promote efficient production through farmer education, public and private research, labeling and registration of crop protection products; to promote uniform seed and product standards; and to work to develop and implement agriculture policies that will enhance development of the industry.

	In the 2015 - 2016 year Northern Canola Growers Association completed two field tours for growers providing education on successfully growing canola. The organization also conducted an Annual Research Symposium to educate growers and industry on current-year canola research results and to discuss future research needs as well as conducted an Annual Meeting to provide educational knowledge to canola growers & industry. Conducted canola oil promotion activities at Culinary Institute of America at two different programs targeting young chefs and restaurants.

Explanation

Part X, Line 2:

The Association is a nonprofit organization that is exempt from the federal income tax under Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(6). The Association has appropriate support for any tax positions taken affecting its annual filing requirements, and as such, does not have any uncertain tax positions that are material to the financial statements. The Association would recognize future accrued interest and penalties related to unrecognized tax benefits and liabilities in income tax expense if such interest and penalties are incurred. The Association is no longer subject to federal or state tax examinations by tax authorities for the years before 2013.

The Executive Committee makes decisions on issues which the Board of Directors has delegated to them. They only act on issues that arise between regular board meetings.
Form 990, Part VI, Section A, line 3	The Organization has entered into a management agreement with Coleman Associates, Inc., a company 100% owned by the Organization's Executive Director, Barry Coleman, and his spouse. The agreement provides for operational management of and marketing for the Organization. The contract commenced on January 1, 2015 and terminates on December 31, 2017. Total compensation paid by Coleman Associates to Barry Coleman for the calendar year ended December 31, 2015 was $78,533. Compensation can be further broken down to $74,933 in salary and $3,600 in retirement benefits.
Form 990, Part VI, Section A, line 6	The Organization has three types of memberships: Producer Members - This group is required to pay an annual fee of $40, and shall include any growers who are actively involved in farming, and who have an interest in canola.
