Stimulating, increasing, and improving the marketing of turkeys through promotional avenues: direct advertising in newspapers and magazines and on radio and television; preparation and distribution of press releases; promoting cooperation of organizations that assist in developing new markets and reducing costs of marketing turkeys; participating in promotional events featuring turkeys and turkey products; planning, organizing, and promoting contests that provide publicity for food; and preparation and distribution of leaflets, booklets, films, and other advertising materials that relate to uses of turkey, including recipes which use turkeys and turkey products.

Research on production, distribution, and marketing of turkeys by surveys, examinations, tests, studies, and experiments designed to: develop new turkey products; increase consumer acceptance of turkeys; expand markets for turkeys and new turkey products; improve conditions that adversely affect production, distribution, and marketing of turkeys; and meet the needs of the turkey industries current and future needs. There was a total of four projects performed at the University of Minnesota, these projects were related too: Determining the Suitability of Crude Corn Oil as a Fat Source from Market Toms and Impact on Fatty Acid Consumption; Improving Utilization of Corn in Market Turkey Diets; The Turkey Gut Health Initiative - Phase 2; and Investigating Multiple Antimicrobial Interventions Against Salmonella Heidelberg Colonization in Turkey Poults.The cost of these four research projects and two testing projects totaled $93,677. In addition, research related services were provided by the Minnesota Turkey Growers Association totaling $15,500.

Return Reference Explanation
Part X, Line 2: The Council is exempt from taxation as a nonprofit organization in accordance with 501(c)(5) of the Internal Revenue Code. The Council adopted the recognition requirements for uncertain income tax positions as required by the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) Accounting Standards Codification (ASC) 740-10, with no cumulative effect adjustment required. Income tax benefits are recognized for income tax positions taken or expected to be taken in a tax return, only when it is determined that the income tax position will more-likely-than-not be sustained upon examination by taxing authorities. The Council has analyzed tax positions taken for filing with the Internal Revenue Service and the state jurisdiction where it operates. The Council believes that income tax filing positions will be sustained upon examination and does not anticipate any adjustments that would result in a material adverse affect on the Council's financial condition, results of operations or cash flows. Accordingly, the Council has not recorded any reserves, or related accruals for interest and penalties for uncertain income tax positions at February 29, 2016. The Council is subject to routine audits by taxing jurisdictions; however, there are currently no audits in progress for any tax open tax periods.

Part I, Line 2: The Council receives quarterly invoices from the Regents of the University of Minnesota stating how the funds were used and distributed. Then, before the Council pays the invoice, it also requires that the principal investigator/researcher submit a progress report on their research. Contributions and sponsorship amounts are reviewed and approved by the Board of Directors and Executive Director before payments are made.
