OUR LIVE RELEASE RATE (ADOPTABLE ANIMALS WHO FOUND HOMES) IN FYE 15 WAS 96%, THE HIGHEST OF ANY ORGANIZATION WITHIN ARIZONA. OUR TREND FOR THE LAST THREE YEARS HAS BEEN 95% OR HIGHER. IN ADDITION, 16,669 VACCINATIONS, 12,572 MEDICAL TESTS AND 18,847 TREATMENTS WERE PERFORMED ON SHELTER PETS. ADDITIONALLY, THE HUMANE SOCIETY OF SOUTHERN ARIZONA HAS PLACED AN EMPHASIS ON TRAINING, BEHAVIOR AND ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS TO BETTER MATCH PETS WITH POTENTIAL NEW FAMILIES. OFFSITE THE HUMANE SOCIETY OF SOUTHERN ARIZONA HAS HAD CONTINUED GREAT SUCCESS WITH ITS OFFSITE ADOPTION MODEL OF TWO RETAIL AND ADOPTION CENTERS AT TWO LOCAL MALLS, AND MULTIPLE COMMUNITY SPECIAL EVENTS. HSSA OPENED THE FIRST RETAIL AND ADOPTION CENTER, PAWSH, IN 2009 AT A CENTRAL TUCSON MALL. IN JULY 2010 A SECOND RETAIL AND ADOPTION CENTER OPENED UP IN AN UPSCALE MALL ON THE CENTRAL NORTH SIDE. THE HSSA RETAIL STORES CARRY A VARIETY OF MERCHANDISE FOR THE NEW ADOPTER AND CASUAL SHOPPER. IN FYE 16, 1,889 CATS, DOGS AND OTHER PETS (RABBITS, GUINEA PIGS, ETC.) WERE ADOPTED INTO NEW HOMES FROM THE OFFSITE LOCATIONS, 41.8% OF THE TOTAL ORGANIZATION'S ADOPTIONS. |

WE PROVIDED 15,451 VACCINATIONS AND TREATMENTS AT OUR WALK-IN VACCINATION CLINICS AND AT TIME OF SPAY/NEUTER SURGERY (INCLUDING HSSA PETS BEING PLACED FOR ADOPTION). WE IMPLANTED 1,213 MICROCHIPS TO AID IN THE RETURN OF LOST PETS TO THEIR OWNERS. THROUGH SUPPORT FROM PRIVATE DONORS AND GRANT FUNDING, HSSA WAS ABLE TO PROVIDE SUBSIDIZED SPAY/NEUTER FOR 1,388 PETS OF PEOPLE MOST IN NEED/AT RISK IN OUR COMMUNITY. IN ADDITION TO SPAY/NEUTER, HSSA RECEIVED FUNDING TO PROVIDE SUBSIDIZED OR NO-COST VACCINATIONS AT VARIOUS LOCATIONS THROUGHOUT PIMA COUNTY FOR OVER 700 PETS. TRAP, NEUTER, RETURN: TNR FOR FERAL CATS CONTINUE TO BE A LARGE FOCUS OF THE HSSA'S SPAY/NEUTER CLINIC'S OVERALL RESPONSE TO PREVENTION OF OVERPOPULATION. A TOTAL OF 685 FERAL CATS WERE SPAYED AND NEUTERED IN FISCAL YEAR 15/16. THE HUMANE SOCIETY OF SOUTHERN ARIZONA HAS HISTORICALLY BEEN THE ONLY CLINIC TO PROVIDE FULLY FUNDED FERAL CAT SURGERIES, INCLUDING RABIES VACCINATION, WITH NO APPOINTMENT OR RESTRICTIONS TO THE NUMBER OF CATS BROUGHT IN DAILY BY LOCAL COLONY CARE-GIVERS AND RESIDENTS OF THE COMMUNITY. THE HSSA CLINIC PROVIDES SURGICAL CARE TO SHELTER PETS THAT REQUIRE SPECIAL SURGERIES SUCH AS AMPUTATIONS, ENUCLEATIONS, OR SPECIAL TREATMENTS SUCH AS IV FLUIDS, BLOOD TESTING, CYTOLOGY, ETC. THESE SPECIAL SERVICES ENABLE SHELTER PETS TO RECOVER FROM INJURIES OR MEDICAL ISSUES AND HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY FOR A SECOND CHANCE AND A FOREVER HOME. THE HSSA CLINIC CONTINUES TO OFFER EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR CLINIC AND SHELTER STAFF ALIKE SO THAT OUR STAFF HAS THE MOST CURRENT AND RELEVANT 'BEST PRACTICE' INFORMATION AVAILABLE, AND CAN THEN EDUCATE 'PET PARENTS' ON THE IMPORTANCE OF EARLY PREVENTION AND PET WELLNESS. |
