    Summary of Direct Charitable Activities
List the foundation’s four largest direct charitable activities during the tax year. Include relevant statistical information such as the number of organizations and other beneficiaries served, conferences convened, research papers produced, etc. Expenses
1 CARNEGIE MATH PATHWAYS OUR EFFORTS TO IMPROVE STUDENT SUCCESS IN DEVELOPMENTAL MATH IN COMMUNITY COLLEGES HAVE GENERATED IMPRESSIVE RESULTS. THROUGH TWO NETWORKED IMPROVEMENT COMMUNITIES (NICS), WE HAVE CREATED, IMPLEMENTED, AND ARE NOW SCALING UP STATWAY AND QUANTWAY. SINCE ITS LAUNCH IN 2011, OVER 50% OF STATWAY STUDENTS HAVE RECEIVED A STATISTICS COLLEGE CREDIT AFTER ONE YEAR, COMPARED TO ONLY 9% OF NON-STATWAY DEVELOPMENTAL MATH STUDENTS. CARNEGIE'S QUANTWAY PATHWAY IS ACHIEVING COMPARABLE RESULTS. SINCE ITS LAUNCH IN 2012, OVER 56% OF QUANTWAY STUDENTS HAVE SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED DEVELOPMENTAL MATH IN ONE TERM, COMPARED TO ONLY 29% OF TRADITIONAL STUDENTS WHO COMPLETE THE TRADITIONAL DEVELOPMENTAL MATH SEQUENCE IN TWO YEARS. FURTHERMORE, WE HAVE SUSTAINED THESE SUCCESS RATES EVEN AS WE HAVE SCALED, INTRODUCING NEW FACULTY AND NEARLY DOUBLING THE NUMBER OF INSTITUTIONS IN THE NICS. AS A RESULT OF THIS SUCCESS, OUR FUNDERS HAVE CHALLENGED US TO SCALE THE STATWAY AND QUANTWAY PATHWAY 4,636,011
2 EXTERNAL OFFERINGS AND PARTNERSHIPS UPDATE WE ARE COMMITTED TO DEVELOPING NETWORKS OF IDEAS, INDIVIDUALS, AND INSTITUTIONS TO ADVANCE TEACHING AND LEARNING. WE JOIN TOGETHER SCHOLARS, PRACTITIONERS, AND DESIGNERS IN NEW WAYS TO SOLVE PROBLEMS OF EDUCATIONAL PRACTICE. TOWARD THIS END, WE WORK TO INTEGRATE THE DISCIPLINE OF IMPROVEMENT SCIENCE INTO EDUCATION WITH THE GOAL OF BUILDING THE FIELD'S CAPACITY TO IMPROVE. TO LEVERAGE OUR MODEST RESOURCES WE CONTINUE TO FOCUS ON TWO TACTICS: 1) PROGRAMMING TO BUILD COMPETENCIES IN IMPROVEMENT SCIENCE AND DEVELOPING NICS AND 2) SUPPORTING THE INITIATION OF A SELECT SET OF NICS THAT ALIGN WITH OUR MISSION AND VALUES. WE REGULARLY TRACK THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE THAT ENGAGE WITH US TO ASSESS PROGRESS TOWARDS OUR AIM TO BUILD A VIBRANT IMPROVEMENT COMMUNITY. THE PROGRAMS ALSO PROVIDE AN INCREASINGLY IMPORTANT SOURCE OF FUNDING TO SUPPORT THE FOUNDATION'S OPERATIONS. MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENTS IMPROVEMENT SCIENCE WORKSHOP (DECEMBER 2015) THIS IS DESIGNED FOR 3,370,250
3 CORE EXPERTISE GROUP: IMPROVEMENT TEACHING AND COACHING UPDATE THE IMPROVEMENT GROUP SPECIALIZES IN THE SCIENCE AND PRACTICE OF USING IMPROVEMENT METHODOLOGIES TO SOLVE PROBLEMS OF EDUCATIONAL PRACTICE. THE GROUP WORKS WITH MULTIPLE STAKEHOLDERS TO HELP THEM LEARN ABOUT IMPROVEMENT SCIENCE, BUILD THEIR IMPROVEMENT CAPABILITIES AND ADVISE ON THEIR ONGOING IMPROVEMENT STRATEGY. MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENTS SUMMIT ON IMPROVEMENT IN EDUCATION THE SUMMIT IS A PARTICULARLY BIG EVENT FOR THE IMPROVEMENT GROUP, AS TWO OF THE STRANDS FOCUS SPECIFICALLY ON IMPROVEMENT METHODOLOGIES AND CASE EXAMPLES. THIS YEAR THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE DESIGN AND THE EXECUTION OF THESE SESSIONS WAS INTERNALLY MORE DISTRIBUTED AND THIS WAS ACCOMPLISHED WHILE SIMULTANEOUSLY INCREASING THE COHERENCE OF OUR MESSAGING ABOUT METHODS. THIS IS THE HALLMARK OF THE WAY THIS TEAM FUNCTIONS INTERNALLY AND WILL BE A PARTICULARLY IMPORTANT RESOURCE IN FOSTERING COHERENCE IN THE LARGER FIELD AND AS WE NOW LOOK RAPIDLY TO EXPAND OUR 1,269,242
