| Form 990, Part III, Line 4d: Other Program Services Description | OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 4: DentalThe dental clinic at St. Pius X Church in Kingston, Jamaica is now very active with volunteers from all over the USA and other countries. This past year, 7 mission trips were completed with 15 volunteer dentists, 56 assistants/hygienists and 10 lay people. 3,842 dental patients were seen (1,355 + 2,487 children), and provided with services including cleanings, extractions, fillings, fluoride varnish and many other treatments and referrals. Amounts reported exclude in-kind dental care professional services valued at $181,520. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 5: Food & GoodsDuring our annual food drive, 25 to 40 volunteers gathered to sort various food items at St. John the Evangelist Church in Naples, FL. These items were labeled and cataloged. They were then loaded into a tractor-trailer container and shipped to Jamaica. In fiscal year 2015-16 we shipped 486 boxes or items of food and goods. An estimated 200 elderly poor receive food from the St. Pius X Food Pantry once or twice per month. Grants for feeding programs in Montego Bay diocese and St Pius X were funded. Reported amounts include non-cash in-kind food valued at $21,176. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 6: MedicalThe medical clinic at St. Pius X in Kingston, Jamaica operates 4 days per week, with a part-time local physician who provides care on a deeply discounted basis. The clinic is open to all indigent patients in the poor neighborhood of St Pius, regardless of ability to pay, or church affiliation. We estimate an average 40-60 patients visit the clinic per week, i.e. 2500 patient visits per year. Jamaica Outreach Program supplies the clinic with medicine and much-needed equipment. The clinic dispensary supplies patients with medications free of charge. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 7: Mission TripsEleven mission trips to Kingston were made this year, by 103 volunteers. Each major trip is typically 4 to 5 days and volunteers pay for their own airfare, local transportation, meals and lodging in a convent-hostel (except for dental hygienists and assistants who received travel subsidies). Expenses totalling $7,859 are reported here and partial reimbursement from volunteers is reported as Other Revenue. Activities focus on dental or optical care and assistance in repairs, administration, education and other needs. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 8: Montego Bay RegionThe Diocese of Montego Bay's poor have recently been supported by JOP. The statistics in our Food, Education, Dental and Optical programs include support to the poor in this community, the balance of grants for unrestricted support (if any) is reported here. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 9: Optical CareIn 4 mission trips this past fiscal year, optical exams were completed on 984 patients, 606 pair of prescription eyeglasses were delivered. One mission was to the diocese of Montego Bay. In Naples FL, 3 corneal transplant surgeries were performed on young Jamaicans transported to, and hosted by volunteers in, the USA. In addition, many patients were diagnosed with needing cataract or other eye surgery and or treated for glaucoma. Amounts reported exclude in-kind vision care professional services valued at $34,345. Over the past 18 years, 47 optical trips have been made, seeing approximately 12,335 patients for eye exams and delivering over 9,423 pair of eyeglasses. |
