	CHANNEL PROMOTIONS: WMMB'S Channel Promotions program area provides support to retailers, foodservice operators, wholesalers and distributors through a variety of promotional support programs. In FY2016 channel promotions had a number of achievements.Within retail, WMMB worked with 338 retailers of various sizes, an increase of 12% over FY2015. WMMB continues to focus on those accounts willing to plan and execute annual promotion programs with the organization. In FY2016, WMMB grew the number of promotions nationwide from 1,606 in FY2015 to 1,992, an increase of 24%. Due to continued growth in participation, WMMB again conducted the Grilled Cheese Recipe Showdown as a national promotion. Retail store participation grew over 35% to a total of 8,140 stores in FY2016.Within foodservice, WMMB worked with over 110 foodservice operators ranging from one to over 550 units in size. The quantity of promotions grew from 158 in FY2015 to 192 in FY2016, an increase of 22%. WMMB continues to focus on those accounts that are high volume users of Wisconsin Cheese and dairy products and are willing to plan and execute promotional programs. Foodservice promotions consist of various marketing elements that may include menu mentions, media, packaging, decor, social media, and wearables.Additionally in FY2016, WMMB increased the number of wholesalers and distributors who executed programming by 70% over FY2015. Distributor and wholesaler promotion programs focus on growing distribution and increased national representation of Wisconsin dairy products.

	NATIONAL COMMUNICATIONS: WMMB'S National Communications programming includes consumer advertising, public relations, marketing events, websites, social media and a variety of other educational and promotional activities intended to build demand for Wisconsin milk and to strengthen the image of Wisconsin cheese versus other places of origin. Since approximately 90 percent of Wisconsin milk is used for cheese making, WMMB's promotional focus is primarily on cheese, but in-state activities include all dairy products.Within this varied communications area is a consumer strategy of reaching well-defined target audiences, including core cheese consumers (primary family shoppers; usually women between 35 and 54 years of age), while broadening our reach to also include younger consumers, as well as selected male shoppers. This strategy incorporates additional, more narrowly-defined targeted audiences, including a focus on foodservice and retail industry cheese buyers. Much of our consumer advertising dollars are invested in print advertising in a variety of leading food, leisure and lifestyle publications. A growing portion of our budget is devoted to online marketing strategies. These activities include our corporate website, www.eatwisconsincheese.com, and ongoing support and promotion of single subject websites designed to engage consumers in unique brand experiences driven by social media, including www.cheeseandburgersociety.com and www.grilledcheeseacademy.com. Foodservice advertising and public relations focuses on three meal segments: pizza, sandwiches and (cheese) burgers. Advertising employs a common message across all segments, using a quality cheese message and positions WMMB as a resource partner for restaurant chains and operators. Another commonality among our advertising across all segments is the use of the "Wisconsin Cheese" logo to allow consumers to easily identify the source of our cheeses as Wisconsin produced.Our public relations program reaches into all of the audience segments above in an integrated fashion of providing information to consumers that educates and builds awareness of Wisconsin cheese quality, versatility and variety. Tactics employed include consumer tasting events around the United States, recipes which showcase the superior taste and performance attributes of Wisconsin cheese, spokesperson endorsements and testimonials. Our national public relations, consumer advertising and social media efforts typically generate more than 2 billion consumer impressions annually.

	LOCAL PROMOTIONS: WMMB'S Local Promotions program focuses on activities within the geographic boundaries of Wisconsin, but also reaches our surrounding states with a combined market of about 30 million people. Within this budget area WMMB executes several seasonal promotions such as an all products promotion during the December holiday season using advertising, public relations and social media; a milk promotion using advertising and public relations tactics; a statewide visibility program for June Dairy Month utilizing advertising, promotion, public relations and social media; and statewide sports-related promotions such as sponsorship of the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association tournaments, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Marquette University and UW-Green Bay athletics. A variety of media including television, radio, print advertising and on-site messaging is used to maximize these investments. In addition, WMMB sponsors the Tour of America's Dairyland, a 10-day series of cycling races in June focusing on chocolate milk as a highly effective recovery beverage.
