| Form 990, Part III, Line 4d: Other Program Services Description | OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 4: PARTNERS-IN-EDUCATION: Celia Clinton Elementary School was adopted by our members through the Partners-In-Education program. Marked improvements in students' test scores resulted through the direct efforts of Rotarians who provided weekly mentoring, clothing, food, financial support, and countless volunteer hours to disadvantaged students. Whether popping popcorn for a rewards party, strengthening reading skills by being a good listener or presenting every third-grader with his/her very own, personalized dictionary, Rotary volunteers impact the daily lives of over six administrative staff, 36 teachers and more than 600 students. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 5: YOUTH EXCHANGE: Our Youth Exchange activities, including outbound students, recruiting counselors for inbound students and host families for inbound students, are part of the larger, global Rotary Youth Exchange program of Rotary International. During the Rotary year we hosted two inbound students and one outbound student as well as participated in the regional leadership conference. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 6: CAMP ENTERPRISE: Camp Enterprise provides a select group of 100 high school juniors (recruited from over 45 northeastern Oklahoma schools) the opportunity to learn team building (ROPES), leadership and motivation skills while working within a real business simulation program. Campers meet and interact with some of Tulsa's top business leaders and work with international students (Rotary Youth Exchange) assigned to their team. It is a global experience about what makes America's free enterprise system work. Originally developed with the help of the American Management Association (AMA) and the Rotary Club of Tulsa using tools available from Junior Achievement, Camp Enterprise is fully funded by sponsors and the club Foundation; students are not charged any fees. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 7: Grant Making to Numerous Tax Exempt Organizations throughout the Tulsa area. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 8: YEARLING SERVICE PROJECTS: The Yearling Service Project brings together new Rotary members into two Yearling classes per year of about 20 in each group. The goal of each Yearling class was to identify a community need, determine the resources required to meet that need, secure those financial and human resources and complete a service project to meet that need. Each Yearling class was given a $2,500 grant from the Rotary Club of Tulsa Foundation to complete their chosen service project. They had the option to work with $2,500, to solicit additional sponsorship or conduct an event to raise funds to be given as a grant to the nonprofit with whom they partnered. The Yearling Service Project: Increased Yearling involvement with the club thru the process of planning and executing the service project. Assimilated the Yearlings faster by bonding with one another while working on a project together, and Allowed them to become more familiar with the various service projects options both locally and internationally.Class 1 partnered with Tulsa Community College to build and install metal benches around the flagpole at our Partner-In-Education elementary school for parents to enjoy while they waited for their students to finish school. Class 2 partnered with Tulsa Community college and Oklahoma Council for Community Justice to build and install Buddy Benches at three area public schools. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 9: SHOP WITH A COP: Shop With A Cop is an intervention program in partnership with the Tulsa Fraternal Order of Police, Celia Clinton Elementary School (our Partner-In-Education school for over 20 years) and Target. Rotary Club of Tulsa Foundation and the TFOP each contribute $2,000 to the project. With the help of school counselors, 35-40 elementary students are identified as not only from families with financial hardship but also those that may have had a difficult experience with the police. For example, having a parent removed from the household or the child removed from an unsafe situation. The selected students are each paired with a police officer and a Rotarian at the store. Together they develop a Christmas shopping list. While the officer and child shop for the family, the Rotarian secretly assures there are also gifts included for the child. With lots of advance planning, the morning unfolds in organized chaos, with each child sent home with wrapped presents for their families and a new appreciation that police are great men and women who truly care about their wellbeing. |
