THIS EXPERIENCE ENCOURAGES STUDENT/FACULTY ENGAGEMENT AND STUDENT INVOLVEMENT IN THE COLLEGE, BOTH OF WHICH HAVE BEEN SHOWN TO INCREASE STUDENT RETENTION. COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH IN ACTION (CRIA) - 3,000/COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH IN ACTION (CRIA) IS A TWO-SEMESTER, INTERGENERATIONAL, MULTI-INSTITUTIONAL PROJECT THAT TRAINS HISTORICALLY UNDERREPRESENTED POPULATION IN ACADEMIA - FIRST-GENERATION AND PROSPECTIVE COLLEGE STUDENTS, AND STUDENTS OF LOWER SOCIOECONOMIC STATUS - TO IDENTIFY AND EXAMINE CRITICAL ISSUES IN THEIR COMMUNITIES, SHARE FINDINGS, AND DEVELOP ALTERNATIVES. A 2,000 REQUEST IS TO PROVIDE TUITION SCHOLARSHIPS SO THAT THE PIMA COLLEGE CRIA STUDENTS CAN EARN THREE (3) ACADEMIC CREDIT HOURS FOR THEIR PARTICIPATION IN CRIA DURING THE SPRING 2016 SEMESTER AND ENHANCE THEIR ETHNIC STUDIES CURRICULUM. A REQUEST FOR 500 WILL PURCHASE BUS PASSES FOR THE PARTICIPATING MIDDLE, HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE STUDENTS TO HELP THEM ACCESS RESEARCH RESOURCES AND MATERIALS. ALSO, THIS PROJECT WILL SERVE AS AN EFFORT TO RECRUIT GRADUATING SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS TO ATTEND PCC, AS WELL AS PLANTING THE SEED IN NON- SENIOR STUDENTS TO THINK ABOUT SCIENCE AS A CAREER CHOICE AND PCC AS THEIR INSTITUTION OF CHOICE.
