| FORM 990, PART III, LINE 1 - ORGANIZATION MISSION | Early Connections is a leading organization in northwestern Pennsylvania for quality early care and education. The agency provides direct service as well as training and planning leadership for a wide geographic region. Since 1895 Early Connections (formerly known as the YWCA) has served children and families in Erie County. Presently direct service is provided at four inner city sites in the City of Erie and two rural sites in Union City and in North East. In the direct service programs at two sites children with special needs attend preschool in inclusive classrooms. Direct service includes early care and education, child care and services to families. Early Connections participates in the Keystone STARS program and its centers are at the highest level. In 2007 Early Connections began providing Pre-K Counts education programs at four inner city sites in partnership with the Erie School District, one location in Union City in partnership with the Union City Area School District, and one location in North East in partnership with the North East School District. Early Connections is the lead facilitator for the work of Success By 6 which was also the Community Engagement Group in Erie County for several years. Success By 6 is a United Way of Erie County initiative administered locally by Early Connections. Early Connections provides Community Leadership and Keystone STARS Technical Assistance for the Northwest Regional Key, a state supported early care and education quality improvement initiative responsible for serving 20 counties in northwestern Pennsylvania. Early Connections contracts for one consultant in the region in the provision of STARS technical assistance. Early Connections is a professional development organization for the NW Regional Key and has provided the Child Development Associate Credential training including administration of online courses. In addition, Early Connections leads the effort for rural participation in the Erie Free Taxes Program and serves on the Early Childhood Committee for Erie. Together, a collaborative anti-poverty initiative. In 2012 Early Connections became the administrator for Erie's Future Fund. In all leadership capacities staff of Early Connections convene and coordinate collaborative efforts and provide training to effect positive outcomes for children. |
