BACKGROUND CHECKS ARE PERFORMED ON ALL VOLUNTEERS WHO COME TO THE SCHOOL MORE THAN ONE TIME. PARENTS ARE ENCOURAGED- AND DO VOLUNTEER IN LARGE NUMBERS- TO HELP IN THE CLASSROOM AND DURING SPECIAL EVENTS. IN 2017-2018 WE HAD TWO INTERNS WHO VOLUNTEERED/WORKED AT OUR SITE ABOUT 10-16 HOURS/WEEK: UNDERGRADUATE SOCIAL WORK INTERN. SHE PROVIDED DIRECT SUPPORTIVE SERVICES TO THE CHILDREN AND SUPPORT THE SOCIAL SERVICE DEPARTMENT. THROUGH OUR PARTNERSHIP WITH UNITED WAY OF PASSAIC COUNTY, WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO BECOME A HOST SITE FOR THEIR HEALTHY LIVING INITIATIVE WITH FOOD CORPS. WE HAVE HOSTED A FOOD CORPS VOLUNTEER FOR THE PAST 4 YEARS. THEY HAVE HELPED US ESTABLISH A WORKING GARDEN AND DEVELOPED PLANS FOR SUSTAINABILITY PAST THEIR INVOLVEMENT. THE VOLUNTEER ALSO PROVIDES CLASSROOM LESSONS TO THE CHILDREN AND CO-SPONSORS TWO FESTIVALS A YEAR AT THE SCHOOL. UNITED WAY HELPS TO PROVIDE CORPORATE VOLUNTEERS FOR THESE FESTIVALS. CHILDREN'S DAY WORKS HARD TO DEVELOP CONNECTIONS WITHIN THE COMMUNITY AND PROVIDES MULTIPLE VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES FOR INTERESTED STUDENTS IN OUR COMMUNITY.
