| FORM 990 | THE UNITED METHODIST CHILDREN'S HOME OF THE NORTH GEORGIA CONFERENCE, INC. (UMCH OR THE ORGANIZATION) WAS ESTABLISHED IN 1871 IN NORCROSS, GEORGIA TO CARE FOR CHILDREN ORPHANED DURING THE CIVIL WAR, AND HAS EVOLVED TO SERVE CHILDREN AND FAMILIES IN A "CONTINUUM OF CARE" MODEL. UMCH ENVISIONS A WORLD WHERE "ALL CHILDREN ARE RAISED IN A LOVING, COMPASSIONATE AND NURTURING HOME." THE ORGANIZATION WORKS EVERY DAY TOWARD ITS MISSION "TO RESTORE CHILDREN AND FAMILIES FROM TRAUMA THROUGH JESUS CHRIST." SINCE 1973, UMCH HAS CARED FOR OVER 6,000 CHILDREN IN SAFE AND LOVING FOSTER CARE HOMES; IT PROVIDES SAFE HOUSING FOR AT-RISK YOUNG ADULTS AND PREPARES THEM TO MAKE POSITIVE LIFE DECISIONS AND BECOME PRODUCTIVE, INDEPENDENT, CITIZENS; AND IT STRENGTHENS AND PRESERVES AT-RISK FAMILIES THROUGH SAFE HOUSING AND SUPPORT SERVICES. TODAY, UMCH SERVES OVER 240 CHILDREN AND ADULTS A DAY IN 40 COUNTIES ACROSS NORTH GEORGIA, AND IT DELIVERED OVER 56,000 DAYS OF CARE IN 2018. FINANCIAL RESOURCES ARE GENERATED FROM STATE PARTNERSHIPS, PRIVATE PHILANTHROPY AND EARNED INCOME. FOR MORE INFORMATION VISIT WWW.UMCHILDRENSHOME.ORG. IN 2019, THE ORGANIZATION INTRODUCED A NEW NAME THAT REFLECTS BOTH ITS TREMENDOUS GROWTH AND UNLIMITED POTENTIAL, WHILE PRESERVING ITS DEEP FOUNDATIONS IN THE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH. THE ORGANIZATION WILL BEGIN DOING BUSINESS AS WELLROOT FAMILY SERVICES. FOR MORE INFORMATION VISIT WWW.WELLROOT.ORG. |
| FORM 990, PAGE 2, PART III, LINE 4B | IN OUR FOSTER CARE PROGRAM, WE SERVED 228 CHILDREN THROUGHOUT 2018. AN IMPORTANT MEASURE THAT WE TRACK FOR FOSTER CARE IS BED DAYS - THIS IS THE NUMBER OF DAYS OUR FOSTER PARENTS AND OUR FOSTER CARE TEAM ARE CARING FOR FOSTER CHILDREN. IN 2018, WE SERVED CHILDREN FOR 45,699 BED DAYS, AN INCREASE OF .3% FROM 2017. ONE IMPORTANT METRIC WE TRACK FOR CHILDREN IS THEIR POSITIVE DISCHARGES, WHICH INCLUDE REUNIFICATION WITH FAMILY AND ADOPTION. WE ACHIEVED 78% POSITIVE DISCHARGES FOR THE CHILDREN WE SERVED. THESE POSITIVE TRANSITIONS INCLUDED 93 OF OUR FOSTER CHILDREN THAT WERE REUNIFIED WITH THEIR BIRTH FAMILY OR ADOPTED. TO PROVIDE CARE FOR EVEN MORE FOSTER CHILDREN, OUR TEAM GUIDED AND TRAINED 53 NEW FOSTER FAMILIES FROM APPLICATION THROUGH APPROVAL TO CARE FOR FOSTER CHILDREN. TO REDUCE OUR PROGRAM RISK AND ESTABLISH A FUTURE GROWTH MODEL FOR NEW FOSTER CARE LOCATIONS, WE SEPARATED OUR FOSTER CARE PROGRAM RESIDENTIAL CHILD CARE LICENSES (RCCL) WITH THE STATE OF GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SERVICES. INSTEAD OF ONE PRIMARY LICENSE TO COVER ALL OUR OFFICE LOCATIONS, WE REQUESTED AND HAVE BEEN GRANTED ONE (1) LICENSE FOR EACH LOCATION. CURRENTLY, WE HAVE 4 SEPARATE RCCL LICENSES AND THE STATE LICENSING DATA IS REPORTED FOR EACH LICENSE/LOCATION SEPARATELY. |
| FORM 990, PAGE 2, PART III, LINE 4C | INDEPENDENT AND TRANSITIONAL LIVING PROGRAMS OUR INDEPENDENT LIVING PROGRAMS (ILP) FOCUSES ON SERVING YOUNG ADULTS TRANSITIONING TO ADULTHOOD FROM FOSTER CARE. OUR TARGET OUTCOME FOR THE 11 YOUTH THAT WE SERVED IS THAT 80% OF THE YOUTH MAINTAIN STABLE EMPLOYMENT FOR 6 CONSECUTIVE MONTHS. IN 2018, OUR YOUTH POPULATION EXCEEDED OUR GOAL - 100% MAINTAINED EMPLOYMENT FOR 6+ MONTHS. OUR TRANSITIONAL LIVING PROGRAM (TLP)ALSO FOCUSES ON YOUTH TRANSITIONING TO ADULTHOOD FROM FOSTER CARE. THESE YOUNG ADULTS REQUIRE SOME ADDITIONAL MONITORING AND GUIDANCE AS THEY ARE WORKING TO ACHIEVE EDUCATIONAL AND EMPLOYMENT GOALS. WE SERVED 33 YOUNG ADULTS IN 2018, SETTING A GOAL THAT 80% WOULD BE ON TRACK TO GRADUATE OR WOULD GRADUATE DURING THE YEAR. OUR YOUTH EXCEEDED THE TARGET DURING 2018 - 85% GRADUATED OR WERE ON TRACK TO GRADUATE. |
