EDUCATIONAL MISSION AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS THE CONSTITUENT ORGANIZATIONS OF WAKE FOREST BAPTIST HEALTH OPERATE A BROAD RANGE OF EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS THAT TEACH AND GRADUATE SKILLED HEALTH PRACTITIONERS. IT ATTRACTS SOME OF THE WORLD'S MOST COMPETITIVE MEDICAL STUDENTS, RESIDENTS AND FELLOWS, AS WELL AS STUDENTS IN CLINICAL PASTORAL CARE, NURSE ANESTHESIA AND OTHER AREAS. IN THE MOST RECENT REPORTING PERIOD, FISCAL 2017, WAKE FOREST BAPTIST HEALTH INVESTED MORE THAN $109 MILLION IN THE EDUCATION OF TOMORROW'S HEALTH CARE AND BIOMEDICAL LEADERS AND IN RESEARCH FUNDING NOT COVERED BY OUTSIDE SOURCES. SUCH INVESTMENTS SUPPORT THE TRAINING OF HUNDREDS OF STUDENTS. IN FISCAL 2018, THOSE INCLUDED 510 MD STUDENTS, 732 PHYSICIAN RESIDENTS AND FELLOWS, 319 GRADUATE STUDENTS, 173 PHYSICIAN ASSISTANTS, 48 NURSE ANESTHESIA STUDENTS, 22 PASTORAL CARE CHAPLAIN RESIDENTS AND INTERNS, AND 63 STUDENTS IN THE VIRGINIA TECH WAKE FOREST UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING AND SCIENCES. IN ADDITION, THE NORTHWEST AREA HEALTH EDUCATION CENTER, PART OF WAKE FOREST SCHOOL OF MEDICINE, OFFERED 2,460 CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES FOR PRACTICING HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS THAT DREW 42,076 PARTICIPANTS FROM THROUGHOUT THE REGION. |
