Explanation:

The taxpayer respectfully requests that any late filing penalities be waived regarding the filing of the organizations tax return. It was the organizations belief that the tax return had been timely filed. However, upon preparing the request for extension of time to file the 2018 tax return, the origanizations accountant discovered that the 2017 tax return had not been filed. It appears this oversight was the result of a clerical error caused by the organizations fiscal year end of March 31st as opposed to December 31st and confussion related to the extended due date change of automatic extensions. We hope that the Service will understand that this situation was an isolated instance and allow for a reduction or waiver of penalties on this issue. We ask that you consider the organizations volunteer status, as no officer or board member receive any pay. Therefore, any penalties assessed against the organization will take funds directly away from the funds used to support our mission. You can see from the small size of the organization that such a penalty would have a large impact on the ability to fund our operations. In addition, we request that you consider the organizations history of timely filed tax reurns 990, 941, 940, 1099, 1096, W-2, W-3. Finally, our accountant has taken steps to esure the timely filing of future returns including a system of dual ownership of filing requirements within the firm.
