What is the organization's primary exempt purpose? Making good men better men. The Masons are a group of men that work together to make each other better, doing this through ritual work, study and making a difference in our communities.We are very pro-education, in fact, the Masons were instrumental in setting up schools in the colonies. We assist the Grand Lodge (Head Lodge of each state) in offering their programs on scholarships, vocational school grants, as well as subsidizing retirement homes for aging Masonic family members. Locally, we offer scholarships to graduating LaPlata County seniors. The amount has varied in the past, from $2,500 to $5,500. This is a four year disbursement and a student must be full time, as well as maintain a 3.0 grade average on a 4. scale. Typically we are putting out $5,000 per year (25% of $5,000 to each student and there are usually four at any given year. One new winner each year) We have been involved with BBBS of Southwest Colorado, with members mentoring studdents. We are a 4-H sponsor of their
