| FORM 990-EZ, PART III | WOMEN OF THE DREAM, INC. IS A 501-C-3 NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION THAT PROVIDES PROGRAM SERVICES TO GIRLS AND YOUNG WOMEN, AGES 12-18, IN CAMDEN, NJ AND OTHER UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES, AND PREPARES THEM FOR PERSONAL, CAREER, AND ECONOMIC SUCCESS. OUR MISSION IS TO STRENGTHEN THE LEADERSHIP, POWER, AND VOICES OF GIRLS FROM MARGINALIZED AND UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES. OUR GLOBAL VISION IS THAT ALL GIRLS AND YOUNG WOMEN, REGARDLESS OF RACE, ETHNICITY, INCOME LEVEL OR SOCIAL STATUS, ARE NURTURED AND EMPOWERED TO REACH THEIR FULLEST POTENTIAL. OUR GOAL IS TO ENSURE THAT GIRLS FROM MARGINALIZED COMMUNITIES BECOME PRODUCTIVE MEMBERS OF SOCIETY THROUGH MENTORING, SCHOOL-BASED WORKSHOPS, LEADERSHIP TRAINING, CONFERENCES, TEEN EMPOWERMENT ACTIVITIES, CAREER DEVELOPMENT AND WORKFORCE READINESS. |
| FORM 990-EZ, PART III, LINE 28 | WOD'S SCHOOL-BASED GROUP MENTORING PROGRAM IS THE HIGHLIGHT OF OUR PROGRAM SERVICES AND THROUGH WHICH WE COORDINATE THE MAJORITY OF OUR SERVICES. CURRENTLY WOD PARTNERS WITH FOUR PUBLIC SCHOOLS IN CAMDEN, NJ TO PROVIDE GROUP MENTORING SERVICES TO MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS. THESE SCHOOLS ARE CREATIVE ARTS MORGAN VILLAGE ACADEMY AND CHARLES BRIMM MEDICAL ARTS HIGH SCHOOL, SERVING GIRLS IN GRADES 8-12, AND VETERANS MEMORIAL FAMILY SCHOOL AND R.T. CREAM FAMILY SCHOOL, SERVING GIRLS IN GRADES 7TH AND 8TH. WOD'S MENTORING PROGRAM IS UNIQUE IN THAT GROUP MENTORING SERVICES OCCUR DURING THE COURSE OF THE SCHOOL DAY, THEREBY REMOVING MANY OF THE BARRIERS ASSOCIATED WITH AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMS. OUR MENTORS, ALL WHO HAVE UNDERGONE TRAINING AND A BACKGROUND CHECK, MEET WITH GIRLS IN A GROUP FORMAT FOR 1 TO 2 HOURS EACH WEEK. TOPICAL DISCUSSIONS INCLUDE TEEN PREGNANCY PREVENTION, CONFLICT RESOLUTION, BREAKING THE CYCLE OF POVERTY, FINANCIAL LITERACY, HIV/STD PREVENTION, FAMILY RELATIONSHIPS, TEEN DATING, AND OTHER SOCIALLY AND CULTURALLY RELEVANT ISSUES. GROUP DISCUSSIONS ARE COMPLEMENTED BY SOCIALLY AND CULTURALLY RELEVANT ACTIVITIES SUCH AS TRIPS TO MUSEUMS, COLLEGES, AND OTHER SETTINGS; PARTICIPATION IN TEEN EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMS, STEM CONFERENCES, AND WORKSHOPS AND LEADERSHIP TRAINING PROMOTING ENTREPRENEURSHIP, CAREER AND WORKFORCE READINESS. THESE OPPORTUNITIES BROADEN THEIR KNOWLEDGE OF THE WORLD, OPEN THEIR EYES TO ENDLESS OPPORTUNITIES, PROVIDE ACCESS TO NETWORKING OPPORTUNITIES WITH SUCCESSFUL WOMEN OF COLOR, AND INTERACTION WITH OTHER YOUNG PEOPLE. |
| FORM 990-EZ, PART III, LINE 29 | SCHOLARSHIPS: IN 2018, WOD HELD ITS SECOND ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP & AWARDS PROGRAM AT THE CAMPBELL SOUP COMPANY IN CAMDEN, NJ. THE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM ALLOWS WOD TO PROVIDE FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO MOTIVATED BUT FINANCIALLY CHALLENGED GIRLS IN CAMDEN, NJ WHO ARE COLLEGE-BOUND. DURING THIS EVENT, WOD PROVIDED SCHOLARSHIPS TO FOUR GIRLS, EACH RECEIVING 2500 TO ATTEND COLLEGES IN PENNSYLVANIA, NEW YORK, AND NEW JERSEY. |
| FORM 990-EZ, PART III, LINE 30 | SOCIALLY AND CULTURALLY RELEVANT OPPORTUNITIES/ACTIVITIES: WOD EXPOSE OUR GIRLS TO SOCIALLY AND CULTURALLY RELEVANT ACTIVITIES BEYOND THE CLASSROOM AND THEIR IMMEDIATE ENVIRONMENT. THIS IS IMPORTANT BECAUSE THE MAJORITY OF OUR PARTICIPANTS ARE LOW-INCOME AND THEREFORE LACK THE RESOURCES TO ENGAGE IN ACTIVITIES THAT WOULD BROADEN THEIR HORIZON. FOR EXAMPLE, WOD SPONSORED A TRIP FOR EIGHT GIRLS TO THE FOUNDER/CEO'S ALMA MATER, SIMMONS UNIVERSITY, IN BOSTON, MA. THE EIGHT GIRLS SELECTED TO ATTEND SPENT A WEEKEND IN BOSTON ATTENDING THE COLLEGE'S SYMPOSIUM WHICH FEATURED EXTREMELY HIGH PROFILE AND SUCCESSFUL WOMEN OF COLOR FROM CNN, CORPORATE AMERICA, BUSINESS ARENA, JOURNALISM, MEDICINE, AND OTHER PROFESSIONS. THE GIRLS WERE GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO MEET AND NETWORK WITH THESE WOMEN, PARTICIPATE IN AND EXPERIENCE FIRSTHAND SUCCESSFUL LEADERSHIP, AND SHARE THEIR OWN DREAMS TO BECOME SUCCESSFUL. |
| FORM 990-EZ, PART III, LINE 31 | WOMEN OF THE DREAM, INC. IS PROUD OF WHAT IT HAS ACCOMPLISHED IN A VERY SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. OUR 3-5-YEAR PLAN IS TO LAUNCH AN EFFECTIVE FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN THAT INCLUDES GRANTS THAT WILL ALLOW THE ORGANIZATION TO ADD STAFF AND THUS ADD MORE PROGRAMS THAT WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF GIRLS IN MARGINALIZED AREAS. "OTHER PROGRAM ACCOMPLISHMENTS INCLUDE TEACHING OUR GIRLS HEALTH AND WELLNESS THROUGH A GRANT FROM BLUE CROSS/BLUE SHIELD OF NEW JERSEY, TEACHING OUR GIRLS TO MAKE THEIR DREAMS REALITY THROUGH VISION BOARDS, ASSISTING OUR GIRLS FOR THE WORKFORCE THROUGH CAREER READINESS PROGRAMS AND LEADERSHIP CONFERENCES. "IN 2017, WOD HELD ITS FIRST ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP GALA SPONSORED BY THE CAMPBELL SOUP COMPANY. IN 2018, WOD PROVIDED 2500 SCHOLARSHIPS TO FOUR RECIPIENTS, ONE OF WHOM IS A FRESHMAN AT CORNELL UNIVERSITY, AN IVY LEAGUE SCHOOL IN NEW YORK.
