Pt VI, Line 5	VCDL became aware that an individual opened corporate charge account, made purchases using those accounts and paid the expenses with VCDL funds. This was done without the Borad's knowledge or approval. The individual also billed VCDL for services which were not supplied or were incorrectly completed. The resulting total diversion of fund is $16,900.00 which is compised of $4,101 in unauthorized purchased, $11,863.00 in services billed but not rendered and $2,098.00 in recovery costs. $1,163 in merchandise purchased was returned to VCDL. The balance is in default. The services of this individual were terminated. The organization has done the following to prevent future improprieties: We've engaged a firm to conduct an annual audit. All expenses over $300 must be put to a Board bote prior to funds being issued. Expenses under$300 must be approved by the President of the organization prior to purchases. Before payments are issued at least one (1) other Board member must be informed of the payment being issued. A monthly report is to be sent to the Board detailing the incoming and outgoing funds and the financial status of the organization. receipts for all expenditures are to be sent to the Treasurer for documentation and will be kept in a digital format and filed in a manner that is easily searchable.
