Explanation

Schedule D, Part X, Line 2

The Association is exempt from income taxes under Section 501(c)(6) of the Internal Revenue Code. However, income from certain activities not directly related to the Association's tax-exempt purpose is subject to taxation as unrelated business income. The Association did not receive any unrelated business taxable income during the years ended December 31, 2018 and 2017 and, therefore, has no provision for income taxes in the accompanying financial statements. The Association believes it has appropriate support for any tax position taken and, as such, does not have any uncertain tax positions that are material to the financial statements. The Association records penalties and interest related to income tax expense on uncertain tax positions to the miscellaneous operations account within management and general expenses on the statement of activities and change in net assets and accounts payable and accrued expenses on the statement of financial position. The Association reported no penalties and interest related to income tax expense on uncertain tax positions for the years ended December 31, 2018 and 2017. Tax years prior to 2015 are no longer subject to examination by the IRS or the tax jurisdiction of the District of Columbia.
