| Part 1 Summary | Our YMCA Mission and Most Significant Activities The Pickens County YMCA is a charitable, community service organization that includes men, women, and children of all ages, abilities, incomes, races and religions. We are dedicated to building strong kids, strong families, and strong communities. Our YMCA nurtures the potential of children and teens, promotes healthy living for all and fosters social responsibility. All persons are welcome at our YMCA, regardless of their ability to pay. In 2018, we gave scholarships of approximately $257,000 due to the recipients' inability to afford YMCA membership and/or programming. This assistance was for all types of programming and membership with the majority being afterschool and summer camp assistance. In addition the YMCA offers no cost programs to at-risk youth. These programs include a free swim lesson program to vulnerable 2nd grade youth at a local elementary school and a YMCA Mentor Program that spans two counties and serves at-risk youth at 38 elementary, middle and high schools. The overall goals of all YMCA programs and services are to foster youth development, assist community members achieve and maintain wellness through healthy living, cultivate community service and fellowship through social responsibility and impact the community. Our YMCA is founded and led by volunteers from our community; volunteers also serve as mentors, coaches, program leaders, instructors and more. Programs that are provided to the community include but not limited to; Fall and Spring Soccer, Volleyball, Spring Baseball, Racquetball, Swim Lessons, Swim Team, Water Aerobics, Arthritis Water Fitness, Birthday Parties, Pool Parties, Lifeguard Training, Water Safety Training, Church Baptisms, Afterschool Care, Summer Day Camp, Specialty Camps for Summer Camp, Teen Counselor-In-Training, Mentor Program, Personal Training, Small Group Personal Training, Group Wellness Classes, CPR Training, SilverSneakers Senior Adult Classes, Group Cycling Classes, Yoga, Pilates, Pound, Zumba, Beast Mode, 'A New You' Wellness Program, Custom Wellness Assessments, Youth Wellness Certifications, a Race Team and small events. We also strive to form community partnerships to enhance and improve our program resources. Over the past year and upcoming year, we have partnerships with Anderson School District 1, Pickens County School District, City of Easley, Easley First Baptist Church, Easley and Pickens Chambers of Commerce, Kohl's, Safe Kids Upstate, Pickens County 4-H, Pickens County DSS, Pickens County American Red Cross, Pickens County United Way, United Way of Anderson County, Pickens County Foster and Adoptive Parent Association, Miracle Hill Children's Home, Kimberly Hampton Memorial Library, Military Outreach Initiative, Southern Wesleyan University, Clemson University, and Easley Baptist Hospital. Businesses and other churches support our YMCA through sponsorships, donations and partnerships. Overall, the Pickens County YMCA directly served over 25,000 residents during 2018. Our YMCA not only provides affordable programming, but we also discount our programs to those who cannot afford them. Everyone can be a part of the YMCA regardless of ability to pay. The YMCA serves a 6 year old as well as a 60 year old. We serve the poorest of the community and the richest of the community. We serve all races, genders, religions and ages. This YMCA truly puts our mission at the forefront, "To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy Spirit, Mind and Body for all." |
