THE WARRIORS BASEBALL CLUB OF MICHIGAN ("WBC") IS INDEED A PUBLIC CHARITY ORGANIZATION AS DESCRIBED IN SECTION 170(B)(1)(A)(VI) OF THE CODE AS EVIDENCED BY THE FOLLOWING: THE ORGANIZATION IS FORMED EXCLUSIVELY FOR THE CHARITABLE AND EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES WITHIN THE MEANING OF 501(C)(3) OF THE INTERNAL REVENUE CODE SO AS TO: A) RECEIVE AND ADMINISTER FUNDS TO EDUCATE, TRAIN AND INSTRUCT YOUNG CHILDREN OF ELEMENTARY, MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL AGES IN BASEBALL FUNDAMENTALS IN A SERIOUS AND HIGHLY COMPETITIVE ENVIRONMENT; TO PROMOTE THE SPORT OF BASEBALL TO YOUNG CHILDREN IN ORDER TO STRENGTHEN SENSE OF COMMUNITY, FOSTER DEVELOPMENT OF LIFELONG RELATIONSHIPS AND ENCOURAGE A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE, ALL FOR THE PURPOSE OF COMBATING JUVENILE DELINQUENCY; TO FOSTER NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION IN THE AREA OF BASEBALL; TO SUPPORT AND DEVELOP AMATEUR ATHLETES FOR NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION AND TO POTENTIALLY PROVIDE THESE YOUNG ATHLETES A CHANCE AT A SCHOLARSHIP TO A COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY THAT THEY WOULD OTHERWISE HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO ATTEND. DURING 2018, THE WBC SERVED MORE THAN 85 YOUTH FROM MORE THAN 35 DIFFERENT CITIES IN THE METRO DETROIT AREA. THE CLUB BENEFITS YOUTH FROM EVERY ETHNIC AND SOCIOECONOMIC BACKGROUND. SEVERAL COME FROM LOWER INCOME HOMES; FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE IS GIVEN AS NEEDED TO THOSE MEMBERS WHO ARE NOT ABLE TO FULLY COVER THE TEAM FEE AND/OR CAMP FEES. WBC HAS ACCOMPLISHED SO MUCH OVER THE PAST 8 YEARS: 5 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS, 50 PLUS PLAYERS WHO HAVE GONE ON THE BE STUDENT-ATHLETES IN COLLEGE, 5 PLAYERS HAVE BEEN DRAFTED TO PLAY PROFESSIONAL BASEBALL, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, OVER 200 YOUTH HAVE GROWN PHYSICALLY, INTELLECTUALLY AND DEVELOPED MORAL COMPASSES, BECAUSE OF THE GREAT WORK OF OUR COACHES AND FAMILIES. MANY OF THESE STUDENT-ATHLETES WERE ABLE TO OBTAIN COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS, DUE IN PART TO THEIR PARTICIPATION IN THE WBC. OUR CURRENT BOARD CONSISTS OF 3 HIGHLY RESPECTED COMMUNITY LEADERS: A SCIENCE TEACHER/MICHIGAN BASEBALL COACHES HALL OF FAMER AND TWO OTHER GENTLEMEN WHO HAVE THEIR DEGREES IN EDUCATION AND WORK AS BASEBALL INSTRUCTORS. ALL 3 HAVE A PASSION FOR THE GAME OF BASEBALL AND ARE MOST INTERESTED IN SEEING YOUNG PEOPLE LEARN LIFE LESSONS, GAIN CONFIDENCE, AND GROW AS PEOPLE OF CHARACTER THROUGH THEIR EXPERIENCES WITH THE CLUB. GOING FORWARD, THE WBC HAS PLANS TO EXPAND ITS FUNDRAISING EFFORTS AS WELL AS ITS BASE OF DONORS. ONE OF THE DIRECTORS WHO HAS PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE IN FUNDRAISING AND MARKETING HAS RECENTLY MOVED INTO A FULL-TIME POSITION WITH THE CLUB TO WORK ON FUNDRAISING AND EXPANDING AND DIVERSIFYING THE DONOR BASE. ADDITIONALLY, THE WBC IS WORKING ON FORMING AN ADVISORY COMMITTEE AS WELL AS EXPANDING THE NUMBER OF BOARD MEMBER POSITIONS NOT ONLY TO ASSIST WITH EXPANDING THE DONOR BASE BUT ALSO TO SHARE THEIR EXPERTISE AND PROVIDE ADVICE ON HOW TO BEST RUN THE WBC IN ORDER TO BE ABLE TO POSITIVELY IMPACT AS MANY OF OUR YOUTH AS POSSIBLE.
