    Summary of Direct Charitable Activities
List the foundation’s four largest direct charitable activities during the tax year. Include relevant statistical information such as the number of organizations and other beneficiaries served, conferences convened, research papers produced, etc. Expenses
1 In the D.C. Wards 7 and 8 Initiative, the Foundation provides technical assistance to build the capacity of early childhood service providers, parents and other stakeholders in the fields of practice, policy and research. This work is focused on enhancing developmental opportunities for infants, toddlers and their families in the District of Columbia's Wards 7 and 8. For school-aged children, this initiative provides technical assistance to enhance wrap-around services (e.g., mental health resources and school infrastructure) in Wards 7 and 8. Finally, this initiative builds the body of knowledge in the child development field in order to increase the use of evidence-based practices and data by parents, service providers and other stakeholders who support children. 15,581,134
2 Through direct operations and partnerships, the Food Security Initiative works to improve healthy food access for low-income families in the District and strengthen the local food system. The Food Security Initiative, which includes operations at a 263-acre farm in Middleburg, Virginia, and investments in the District, aims to achieve impact in four key areas: sustainable agriculture, nutrition education, food-related workforce development and local food distribution pathways. 1,551,565
3 The Seventh-day Adventist Initiative involves partnerships with faith-based schools and organizations in the areas of early learning, wrap-around support, knowledge building and infrastructure to expand the availability of high-quality faith-based learning environments for infants, toddlers, and children. The SDA Initiative helps schools with organizational effectiveness, educator capacity building, wrap-around supports such as tuition assistance and building and renovation projects. 4,551,775
4 The Family Philanthropy Initiative oversees grants to not-for-profit organizations through its Family Fund, the Global Education Fund, generational giving and a staff matching gifts program. 1,824,228
