| FORM 990, PAGE 2, PART III, LINE 4A | THE WYOMING WILDERNESS ASSOCIATION (WWA) HAD FOUR MAJOR PUBLIC LANDS CAMPAIGNS IN 2018. BRIDGER-TETON, SHOSHONE, BIGHORN NATIONAL FOREST, AND THE BLM'S RED DESERT WERE LANDSCAPES OF FOCUS IN 2018. THESE CAMPAIGNS INVOLVED EDUCATING OUR MEMBERS, THE GENERAL PUBLIC, SCHOOL GROUPS, BUSINESSES, DIVERSE ORGANIZATIONS, AND ELECTED OFFICIALS ON THE FUTURE OF THESE WILD PLACES AND CURRENT MANAGEMENT DISCUSSIONS. WWA GAVE PRESENTATIONS ON THE VALUE OF THESE WILDERNESS AREAS TO AFORMENTIONED GROUPS,INCLUDING TEACHING ABOUT THE HISTORY AND ECOLOGY AND THE IMPORTANCE OF PRESERVING THIS WILD HERITAGE FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS. WWA STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS ATTENDED AND TABLED AT LOCAL FAIRS, FESTIVALS, FARMERS' MARKETS, AND EXPOS TO EDUCATE THE PUBLIC ON WYOMING'S UNPROTECTED WILD ROADLESS LANDS. CONCERNED CITIZENS PRODUCED LETTERS TO THE EDITOR BASED ON OUR EDUCATIONAL EFFORTS AND OUTREACH THROUGH PRINTED AND DISTRIBUTED MATERIALS, SUCH AS ALERTS, BROCHURES, BUSINESS PACKETS, NEWSLETTERS, AND OTHER PUBLICATIONS. IN ADDITION, WE INFORM THE PUBLIC THROUGH OUR OUTINGS, WEBSITE, FACEBOOK AND INSTAGRAM PAGE, AND EMAIL SYSTEM. WHILE SERVING TO PROTECT WYOMING'S PUBLIC WILDLANDS, WWA STAFF, MEMBERS, AND SUPPORTERS VOLUNTEERED IN MANY STEWARDSHIP PROJECTS ON NATIONAL FOREST AND BLM LANDS. WWA PARTNERED WITH WYOMING CONSERVATION CORP AND THE ROCK SPRINGS FIELD OFFICE TO FINISH THEIR NONMOTORIZED SIGN PROJECT ALONG WILDERNESS STUDY AREA BOUNDARIES TO HELP THE PUBLIC RECREATE UNDER COMPLIANCE WITH THE EXISTING RESOURCE MANAGEMENT PLAN. WWA ALSO PARTNERED WITH THE BIGHORN NATIONAL FOREST ON VARIOUS STEWARDSHIP PROJECTS INCLUDING CONDUCTING TRAIL SURVEYS AND MAINTENANCE. WWA MADE GREAT STRIDES IN 2018 AROUND COLLABORATION, COMMUNICATION AND RELATIONSHIP BUILDING WITH VARIOUS STAKEHOLDERS, FEDERAL AGENCIES AND CONSERVATION GROUPS ALSO WORKING IN THESE LANDSCAPES. PARTNERSHIP EFFORTS INCLUDED: STEWARDSHIP PROJECTS, SEVERAL FILM SCREENING EVENTS, OUTDOOR RECREATION, INFORMATIONAL EVENTS, YOUTH ENGAGEMENT, AND LAND MANAGEMENT MEETINGS. |
| FORM 990, PAGE 2, PART III, LINE 4B | IN 2018, WWA CONTINUED TO SERVE ON COMMITTEES AND EDUCATE SUPPORTERS AROUND THE WYOMING PUBLIC LANDS INITIATIVE (WPLI) AND PROPOSED LEGISLATION. WWA STAFF OPPOSED INTERESTS TO LIFT RELEASE OF WYOMING'S 45 WILDERNESS STUDY AREAS (WSA) AND SOUGHT TO COME UP WITH SOLUTIONS. THIS ALSO INCLUDED A TRIP TO WASHINGTON D.C. TO EDUCATE, DISCUSS, AND BRING ATTENTION TO THESE LANDSCAPES TO NOT ONLY OUR THREE DELEGATES, BUT OTHER SENATORS AND REPRESENTATIVES FROM AROUND THE COUNTRY. THESE SUCCESSFUL EFFORTS WERE DUE TO THE THOUSANDS OF PUBLIC SUPPORTORS AROUND OUR WSAS. PUBLIC COMMENT WAS ACHIEVED FROM WWA EMAILING ALERTS, NOTICES, AND UPDATES TO MEMBERS AND SUPPORTERS. ADDITIONALLY, WWA HOSTED AND/OR ATTENDED MULTIPLE PUBLIC MEETINGS, PRESENTATIONS, AND WORKSHOPS TO INFORM THE PUBLIC AND ENCOURAGE PERSONALIZED COMMENTS AROUND THE VALUE MANY FIND IN THESE WSA LANDSCAPES. AS THE WPLI WRAPPED UP, WWA CONTINUED TO ADVOCATE FOR THESE LANDSCAPES AND WILL CONTINUE TO DO SO IN 2019 AS A LEGISLATIVE BILL IS CURRENTLY BEING WRITTEN FROM BARASSO'S OFFICE. |
| FORM 990, PAGE 2, PART III, LINE 4C | IN 2018, THE YOUTH AMBASSADORS FOR WILDERNESS PROGRAM WAS REINVIGORATED IN JACKSON AS A LEADERSHIP PROGRAM DEVELOPED TO EDUCATE YOUTH AGES 12-18 WHO ARE INTERESTED IN BECOMING THE NEXT GENERATION OF WILDERNESS LEADERS. THIS FREE, SUMMER PROGRAM IS GEARED TOWARDS YOUTH WHO SHARE COMMON INTERESTS IN KEEPING WYOMING WILD. STUDENTS LEARN FROM EXPERTS IN VARIOUS FIELDS OF CONSERVATION, SHADOW RANGERS IN THE FIELD AND HAVE OPPORTUNITIES TO PARTICIPATE IN HIKES AND OVERNIGHT CAMPING TRIPS. IN 2018, WWA LAUCHED AN OUTDOOR CLUB AT A LOCAL HIGHSCHOOL WITH THE FOCUS AROUND EDUCATION, STEWARDSHIP, AND OUTDOOR RECREATION. THE PROGRAM IS BEING LED BY TWO LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL TEACHERS AND HAVE UPWARDS OF 60+ STUDENTS INVOLVED IN EXPLORING THEIR BACKYARD: THE BIGHORN NATIONAL FOREST. AROUND 95% OF THE PARTICIPANTS ARE EXPERIENCING SOME OF THESE OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES (I.E. CLIMING, BIKING, SKIING) FOR THE FIRST TIME. WWA IS PROUD TO HELP LEAD AN EFFORT TO GET OUR YOUTH CONNECTED WITH THE OUTDOORS WHICH WILL HOPEFULLY INTURN CREATE WILDLAND ADVOCATES IN THE FUTURE. |
