| FORM 990-EZ, PART III, LINE 28 | 1. MINI WORKSHOPS: UWS SUCCESSFULLY HELD FOUR TWO-DAY WATERCOLOR WORKSHOPS. THESE WERE TAUGHT BY LOCAL ART TEACHERS. THERE WERE 23 STUDENTS IN EACH CLASS 2. FIVE-DAY WORKSHOPS. UWS HELD TWO FULL WEEK WATERCOLOR WORKSHOPS, ONE IN OCTOBER 2018 AND ONE IN MAY OF 2019. THE INSTRUCTORS WERE NATIONAL ARTISTS. WE HAD AN AVERAGE OF 18 STUDENTS ATTENDING THE CLASSES. 3. GENERAL MEMBER MEETINGS: ON THE FIRST TUESDAY FROM SEPTEMBER 2018 UNTIL JUNE 2019, WE PRESENTED TEN MEMBER GENERAL MEETINGS. THESE WERE FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. THERE WERE AN AVERAGE OF 90 IN ATTENDANCE. THREE OF THOSE MEETINGS INCLUDED DINNER AS WELL. TWO WERE POT LUCK AND ONE WAS CATERED BY THE PIE PIZZERIA. MEETINGS INCLUDED ANNOUNCEMENTS AND WATERCOLOR DEMONSTRATIONS BY LOCAL ARTISTS. THE MEETINGS WERE CONDUCTED BY THE PRESIDENT. FOR THE SEPTEMBER MEETING, I (PRESIDENT) INVITED COSTUMED ARGENTINE TANGO DANCERS TO PERFORM FOR THE ARTISTS. WHEREBY, THEY WERE ABLE TO PHOTOGRAPH AND SKETCH THE DANCERS. TWO OF OUR GENERAL MEMBER MEETINGS, IN ADDITION TO ANNOUNCEMENTS, INCLUDED DEMONSTRATIONS BY THE NATIONAL ARTISTS WHO TAUGHT THE TWO FULL WEEK WORKSHOPS. 4. EXHIBITIONS: UWS HELD THREE EXHIBITIONS. THESE SHOWS WERE ALL JURIED AND JUDGED BY PROFESSIONAL ARTISTS OUTSIDE THE UWS AND AWARDS WERE PRESENTED AT THE OPENING RECEPTIONS. THE "SMALL WORKS" EXHIBITION WAS HELD IN THE SUMMER OF 2018 AT RED BUTTE GARDENS. OUR "FALL MEMBER EXHIBITION" WAS IN OCTOBER 2018 AT THE DAVIS ART CENTER IN BOUNTIFUL. OUR "SPRING OPEN EXHIBITION" WAS HELD IN MAY 2019 AT THE ECCLES COMMUNITY ART CENTER IN OGDEN, UT. ART OF TWENTY-FOUR ARTISTS WERE CHOSEN FROM THE SPRING EXHIBITION FOR A TRAVELING EXHIBITION BY THE UTAH DIVISION OF ARTS AND MUSEUMS. 5. COMMUNICATIONS: WEBSITE- IN THE SUMMER OF 2018, THE PRESIDENT'S SON DONATED HIS TIME AND TALENTS TO CREATE A LONG OVERDUE, USER FRIENDLY WORDPRESS WEBSITE THAT OUR COMMUNICATIONS BOARD MEMBER IS NOW ABLE TO KEEP UPDATED IN-HOUSE. IN ADDITION, SHE SENT OUT REGULAR EMAIL BLASTS TO MEMBERS TO KEEP THEM APPRISED OF UPCOMING EVENTS, DEADLINES AND OPPORTUNITIES. NEWSPAPER NOTIFICATIONS AND "NOW PLAYING UTAH" ARTICLES WERE SUBMITTED ADVERTISING OUR PUBLIC EVENTS. FURTHERMORE, SHE LIVE STREAMED OUR GENERAL MEMBER MEETINGS AND A PORTION OF OUR EXHIBITIONS ON FACEBOOK. THE COMMUNICATIONS BOARD MEMBER RECEIVED A SMALL COMPENSATION FOR HER TIME. 6. BOARD MEETINGS: OUR BOARD OF 20 MEMBERS MET FOR AT LEAST 90 MINUTES MONTHLY, STARTING IN AUGUST FOR REPORTING, PLANNING, COORDINATING, UPDATING AND PROBLEM SOLVING. 7. ARTS AND THE PARK: FOR THE FIFTH YEAR IN A ROW, UWS HAS PARTNERED WITH THE ENTRADA INSTITUTE IN SOUTHERN UTAH WITH A PLEIN AIR EVENT AT CAPITOL REEF NATIONAL PARK. THIS IS TO RAISE FUNDS FOR THEIR ARTS EDUCATION PROGRAM. IT IS A 4-DAY EVENT THAT CULMINATES WITH AN ART EXHIBITION AND SALE AND IS JURIED FOR AWARDS AND PRIZES. 8. DIRECTORIES: IN SEPTEMBER 2018, THE MEMBERSHIP BOARD MEMBER, COMPILED, PRINTED AND MAILED A DIRECTORY TO ALL 300+ MEMBERS OF THE SOCIETY. 9. SCHOLARSHIPS: IN FEBRUARY OF 2019, UWS AWARDED SCHOLARSHIPS TO TWO DESERVING UTAH HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS AT A CEREMONY IN THE SPRINGVILLE ART MUSEUM. THEY WERE GIVEN 500 AND PORTFOLIOS CONTAINING ALL THE SUPPLIES A FRESHMAN COLLEGE ART STUDENT WOULD NEED. ONE SCHOLARSHIP CAME FROM UWS AND ONE FROM OUR CACHE VALLEY CHAPTER. ALL MONIES WERE DONATIONS COLLECTED FROM UWS MEMBERS. 10. BOOKKEEPING: THE BOOKKEEPER RECEIVED A SMALL COMPENSATION FOR HER DUTIES. ALL MONIES RECEIVED AND PAYED OUT WENT THROUGH THIS FINANCIAL BOARD MEMBER. ALL BANK STATEMENTS WERE RECONCILED. WE WERE ABLE TO BREAK A LITTLE MORE THAN EVEN FROM MONIES COLLECTED FOR MEMBERSHIP DUES, WORKSHOPS AND EXHIBITION ENTRY FEES. ANOTHER REVENUE WAS FROM A 4500 GRANT, WHICH WAS WRITTEN AND SUBMITTED BY THE PRESIDENT TO THE ZOO ARTS AND PARK (ZAP) PROGRAM. 11. PAINT OUTS: EACH MONTH OUR "PAINT OUT" BOARD MEMBER SELECTED AND ADVERTISED A SITE FOR MEMBERS, AND NON-MEMBERS TO PAINT TOGETHER AS A GROUP. THESE WERE FREE EVENTS. LOCATIONS RANGED FROM TAXIDERMY WILD ANIMALS AT SCHEELS, TO THE GREAT SALT LAKE, TO THE SOUTH JORDAN WATER CONSERVATION PARK. WE ENJOYED LUNCH AT A LOCAL RESTAURANTS FOLLOWING TWO HOURS OF PAINTING. IN THE SPRING OF 2019, WE ALSO PARTNERED WITH THE SOUTH JORDAN ARTS COUNCIL IN A PLEIN AIR EVENT BY THE JORDAN RIVER TRAIL. ADVERTISING FOR THIS EVENT WAS BROADCAST ON FOX 13 MORNING NEWS, WITH SOME OF OUR MEMBERS PAINTING LIVE ON TELEVISION. 12. JOURNALING: ONE OF OUR BOARD MEMBERS TAUGHT A 30-MINUTE WATERCOLOR JOURNALING CLASS PRIOR TO EACH GENERAL MEMBER MEETING. SHE DONATED HER TIME AND THERE WAS NO COST TO THE STUDENTS. 13. RECORDING: ALL BOARD MEETING MINUTES WERE RECORDED BY OUR RECORDING SECRETARY, AND WHICH WERE ALL APPROVED BY THE BOARD. |
