What is the organization's primary exempt purpose? To support and encourage pediatricians in the promotion of optimal health for all of Maryland's children and adolescents.
Describe the organization’s program service accomplishments for each of its three largest program services, as measured by expenses. In a clear and concise manner, describe the services provided, the number of persons benefited, and other relevant information for each program title.
28 MDAAP as a membership organization of pediatric healthcare providers in Maryland has engaged in activities that promote safe homes, cars, streets, schools and communities to benefit the children and adolescents in our state. MDAAP has a very active Injury and Violence Prevention Committee which works diligently to improve safety of children in car seats and teen driving. MDAAP members educate families on safe driving strategies for teeagers in partnership with Maryland Teen Driving Coalition. MDAAP's active partners include: Johns Hopkins University, the National Safety Council, AAA MD, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, State Highway Association, Motor Vehicle Administration, and Maryland Institute Emergency Medical Services System. In response to the escalating incidence of tragic school shootings, MDAAP created a new Gun Violence as a Public Epidemic Task Force; MDAAP members are committed to reduce gun violence across our state and play a key role in bringing together gun safety advocates from across the state to educate children, families, schools, communities and legislators on the importance of firearm safety and reduction of injuries and fatalities related to gun violence.

29 MDAAP as a membership organization of pediatric healthcare providers in Maryland has engaged in activities that promote equitable and healthy environments for all children and adolescents in the State of Maryland. With climate change being one of the largest public health threats and with an expanding understanding of the significance that exposures to toxicants in early development have on health throughout the lifespan, a focus on children's and adolescents' environmental health has become an increasing priority for MDAAP members. MDAAP has a strong Environmental Health Committee actively working to represent the unique needs of children and adolescents and to educate our MDAAP members, partners, and the public on the inextricable relationship between the health of children and adolescents, the health of their homes, communities, food, air and waterways. MDAAP members have provided written and oral testimony before the Maryland State General Assembly regarding legislation concerning blood lead levels, have attended Maryland Climate Change Commission meetings, and have partnered with the Maryland Department of Health and the Green and Healthy Homes Inititive.

30 MDAAP as a membership organization of pediatric healthcare providers in Maryland has engaged in activities that promote positive family relationships and early learning opportunities in homes and schools that foster healthy early brain development in young children. Many MDAAP members aim to improve children's neurodevelopment, including their efforts on our Breastfeeding Committee, Emotional Health Committee, and Environmental Health Committee. MDAAP initiatives also focus on the development of nurturing parent-infant bonds, and early access to books and healthy early child care centers as additional strategies to optimize brain development. MDAAP also serves as the Maryland Affiliate for the National Reach Out and Read Program, providing books to Maryland sites for distribution to their patients and families. MDAAP's work also promotes practices at early child care centers that maximize the cognitive, physical, social and emotional development of children and safe and nourishing early child care centers. MDAAP's partners in these efforts include Sinai Hospital, Baltimore City Health Departments and Johns Hopkins Hospital.
