PAUL DRAWING 5,000 COMMUNITY MEMBERS TOGETHER TO CELEBRATE THE LIVES OF THOSE WITH DOWN SYNDROME. A NEW FAMILY TENT WAS SET UP AND HOSTED BY BOARD MEMBERS, STAFF AND SELF ADVOCATES TO WELCOME NEW MEMBERS TO DSAMN. MAJOR SPONSORS OF THE WALK HAD INFORMATION BOOTHS AVAILABLE FOR FAMILIES TO GATHER RESOURCES. WORLD DOWN SYNDROME DAY CELEBRATION IS A FREE ANNUAL EVENT AT THE MALL OF AMERICA TO CELEBRATE THE ABILITIES OF PEOPLE WITH DOWN SYNDROME. WE CONTINUE ONGOING ADVOCACY AND AWARENESS EFFORTS WITH ORGANIZATIONS WHOSE ACTIONS AND POLICIES AFFECT OUR MEMBERS LIKE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION, DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SERVICES, COUNTY OFFICES AND OTHERS. |

INFORMATIONAL PUBLICATIONS INCLUDE DOWN COMFORTER: A PARENT'S GUIDE TO DOWN SYNDROME FOR NEW AND EXPECTANT PARENTS; SHARING THE NEWS: A DIAGNOSIS OF DOWN SYNDROME FOR MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS; AND WE DREAM WHICH INCLUDES INFORMATION AND FACTS FOR THE BROADER COMMUNITY TO BETTER UNDERSTAND DOWN SYNDROME. WE PROVIDE ONGOING OUTREACH AND SUPPORT TO THE MEDICAL COMMUNITY TO PROVIDE ACCURATE INFORMATION AND RESOURCES FOR FAMILIES NEW TO OUR COMMUNMITY. WE SUPPORT 19 PHYSICAL PARENT GROUPS THROUGHOUT THE REGION AND EACH OF THE GROUPS HAS A FACE BOOK PAGE FOR GROUP MEMBERS TO COMMUNICATE WITH EACH OTHER. THESE GROUPS HAVE A DEDICATED STAFF MEMBER WHO TRAINS THE FACILITATORS, SUPPORTS THEM IN ALL AREAS OF ADMINISTRATIVE AND CLERICAL NEEDS. DSAMN ALSO HOSTS SPECIALTY SUPPORT GROUPS SUCH AS ADULTS MATTER, DUAL DIAGNOSIS, SOMALI MOMS, AND GRANDPARENT GROUPS. PARENT TO PARENT CONNECTION IS A SERVICE THAT MATCHES NEW OR EXPECTANT PARENTS THROUGH ONE ON ONE CONVERSATIONS AND MENTORSHIP WITH PARENTS WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THEIR SAME FEELINGS, STRUGGLES AND CELEBRATIONS. WE PROVIDE ENGAGEMENT AND NETWORKING OPPORTUNITIES FOR FAMILIES THROUGH OUR OWN NEW PARENT BREAKFAST, SUMMER PICNIC, FALL FAMILY CELEBRATION AND ICAN SHINE BIKE CAMPS AND PROGRAMS OFFERED BY OUR PARTNERS LIKE ARC, THE MINNESOTA CHILDREN'S MUSEUM, GIGI'S PLAYHOUSE, JACK'S BASKET, SPECIAL OLYMPICS AND OTHERS. |
