Part X : FIN48 Footnote The organization is a nonprofit National Veterans Organization exempt from federal income tax under section 501(c)(19) of the Internal Revenue Code. The organization is included under a group exemption with the Vietnam Veterans of America, Inc. (VVA). In accordance with the modified cash basis of accounting, the organization accounts for uncertainty in income taxes by recognizing tax positions in the financial statements when it is more-likely-than-not the positions will be sustained upon examination by tax authorities. As of February 28, 2019, the organization believes that it has appropriate support for the income tax positions taken on its tax returns and, therefore, believes that it has no uncertain tax positions that would have a material impact on the financial statements. As of February 28, 2019, the tax years that remain subject to examination by taxing authorities begin with 2015.

Grantmaker's Description of How Grants are Used The eleven Chapters receiving funds agree to use the funds for veteran's service programs and community service programs in the areas where the Household Goods Solicitation Program is conducted. Chapters prepare and submit a report to the organization twice a year. In the event that a chapter does not submit their reports in a timely manner, that chapter forfeits their proceeds and they stay with the organization.
