Variety of guides and educational programs for personal development, academic achievement and to improve chapter operations. Guides for volunteer alumni who serve as advisors and mentors to undergraduate members are also provided.

Return Reference Explanation
Part V, Line 4: The Fraternity's endowment consists of donor restricted and board designated funds. The donor restricted endowment (Endowment Education Fund) was established through a grant agreement between Theta Xi Foundation and the Fraternity. The grant corpus is to be held in perpetuity while earnings are to be used to recognize and promote academic achievement and the costs of other qualified education programs. The board designated endowment (Life Membership Fund) was established to provide income to the General Fund of the Fraternity for the support of qualifying Fraternity educational programs. As required by U.S. GAAP, net assets associated with endowment funds are classified and reported based on the existence or absence of donor imposed restrictions.
Part X, Line 2 - FIN 48 (ASC 740) Statement: The Fraternity is exempt from federal income taxes under Section 501(a) as an organization described in Section 501(c)(7) of the Internal Revenue Code. The Fraternity has adopted the accounting guidance related to uncertain tax positions, and has evaluated its tax positions and believes that all of the positions taken by the Fraternity in its federal and state exempt organization tax returns are more likely than not to be sustained upon examination. The Fraternity's returns are subject to examination by federal and state taxing authorities, generally for three years and four years, respectively, after they are filed. The Fraternity has not taken any uncertain tax position as of August 31, 2018 and 2017. The Fraternity annually files Form 990 (Return of Organization Exempt from Income Tax) with the U.S. federal government. The Fraternity is no longer subject to U.S. federal income tax examinations by tax authorities for jurisdictions in which the Fraternity has filed tax returns for years prior to the year ended August 31, 2015.

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 6: Theta Xi Fraternity is a membership organization comprised of undergraduate and alumni members through chapters, colonies, alumni clubs, and alumni associations.
Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 7A: The supreme authority of the Fraternity is the National Convention. Each chapter, colony, alumni club and alumni association in good standing is entitled to a delegate at the National Convention. During the interim between national conventions, the authority to act for the Fraternity shall be vested in the board of directors known as the Grand Lodge.
Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11B: Theta Xi Fraternity procedures for preparation of and internal approval of Form 990, including all schedules, prior to its submission to the Internal Revenue Service shall consist of preparation by an independent certified public accountant followed by review by the Grand Lodge (board of directors).
Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C: Monitoring and enforcement is established by distributing the conflict of interest statement to all Grand Lodge directors at their first meeting of the fiscal year or following elections. Discussion and questions regarding the policy are addressed prior to collecting executed statements for each director, which are then filed for reference and use as necessary.
Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15: Theta Xi Fraternity's policy on compensation committee is as follows: On an annual basis, the Compensation Committee: - Reviews the performance of the Executive Director based on achievements against the established goals and overall performance. - The committee seeks the input of the Board of Trustees in completing this review. - May review appropriate market data on compensation for executive directors at similar not-for-profit organizations, as supplied and analyzed by the Compensation Committee Chair. - The Committee determines any change in compensation for the Executive Director based on: - Job Performance - Fraternity financial resources and sound budget practices - Affordability The Committee has the latitude to provide a change in base pay, a bonus, a lump-sum "merit" increase, an increase in allowances, or non-cash compensation. Consideration of the annual Fraternity budget includes notice to the Board of Trustees for changes in compensation of all employees.

Form 990, Part XII, Line 2C: Theta Xi Fraternity does have a committee that assumes responsibility for oversight of the review of its financial statements and selection of an independent accountant. This process has not changed from the prior year.
