Taxpayer respectfully requests abatement of the late filing penalty. Taxpayer organization treasurer/VP Finance had kept in contact with tax preparer requesting information on when the rreturn would be completed and assurance that the return would be placed on extension if not able to be completed timely. Tax preparer provided such assurance. When tax preparer completed the return it was discovered that the exrension request had not been submitted due to computer / internet issues. Preparer was not aware extension had not gone through until she went to prepare the return. This is the first time the organization has filed its return late and the late filing was caused by the reliance on the tax preparer, who assured/assumed the extension had been filed/accepted as in prior years.
