IN 2018, CANYON COUNTRY DISCOVERY CENTER WORKED TO ENSURE PUBLIC LANDS IN SOUTHEASTERN UTAH REMAIN SUSTAINABLE FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS BY ENGAGING 52 WEEKS OF WORK AND 17,447 HOURS OF SERVICE IN STEWARDSHIP AND CONSERVATION PROGRAMMING ON OUR PUBLIC LANDS OF SOUTHEAST UTAH. OUR YOUTH CORPS (CCYC) PROGRAM ATTRIBUTED TO THE SUSTAINABLE RECREATIONAL ACCESS BY BUILDING/MAINTAINING 16.59 MILES OF HIKING AND MOUNTAIN BIKING TRAILS. OUR BOTANIST ENGAGED IN COLLECTING 15LBS OF NATIVE SEEDS IN 35 COLLECTIONS. SEEDS WERE GIVEN TO THE BLM AND OTHER RESEARCHERS FOR CONSERVATION STUDIES AND PROPAGATION OF NATIVE PLANTS. CCYC CONSTRUCTED 3,744 FEET OF NEW FENCE TO PROTECT RIPARIAN AREAS FROM CATTLE AND OTHER NON-NATIVE WILDLIFE. OUR CORPS ALSO REPAIRED WETLANDS AND REMOVED INVASIVE SPECIES FROM 277.85 ACRES ALONG THE SAN JUAN, DOLORES, AND ESCALANTE RIVERS. CCYC FURTHERED THE TRAINING OF THE NEXT GENERATION OF PUBLIC LAND MANAGERS BY PROVIDING 42 YOUTH AND YOUNG ADULTS SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES WITHIN OUR PROGRAMMING.
