| Pt III, Line 31 | Exempt Purpose:To restore economic vitality to the downtown business district of Enfield, NH, including the purchase and rehabilitation of deteriorated buildings in the district, to encourage economic development for all businesses within the town, and to foster a town-wide sense of community centered on the downtown business district. |
| Pt III, Line 31 | Program Accomplishments for 2019: Greeley House Project: Now houses the EVA office and a two bedroom affordable housing rental unit. This affordable housing apartment has been rented to the same tenant for 3 1/2 years. |
| Pt III, Line 31 | Program Accomplishments for 2019, continued: Mascoma Lakeside Park Project: EVA is participating in an effort to develop a non-motorized boat launch and recreational park at the end of Main Street, which is part of our program area. |
| Pt III, Line 31 | Program Service Accomplishments for 2019, continued: Main Street Flowers: Most of EVA's projects are run by volunteers at very low or no cost. Our Annual Green Up Day, monthly Business Coffees, flower bed labor, etc. are all volunteer and community projects, which are well received, but have few direct costs. |
| Pt III, Line 31 | The Beautification Committee continues to have a very active team of volunteers who plant and maintain flower boxes and small flower gardens, within the business district. Flowers are donated, which reduces cost. They also hang lighted garlands and wreaths on the lampposts during the holiday season. The Committee's biggest project is the annual Harvestfest Scarecrow project. Designed to get businesses to join together to bring attention to the many businesses in Enfield, this program has been embraced by the community, with many residential properties participating. EVA's Beautification Committee puts out over 100 scarecrows, with several dozen more done by other residents and businesses. EVA's scarecrows are constructed of recycled materials, tree limbs for the frame, feedbags for the bodies and faces, and newspapers for stuffing. EVA volunteers dress and maintain all 100 EVA scarecrows. Businesses donate clothing that reflects their business activity (e. g. a white lab coat for the pharmacy). The local thrift shop donates clothing for the nonbusiness scarecrows EVA puts out all around town in parks, the rail trail, main roads into town and of course, the downtown business district. In addition to staging and picking up the scarecrow, EVA also dries them out and stores them in EVA's storage area in the Greeley House. This is another EVA activity that has a large community impact without much expense, thanks to volunteer labor and recycled and donated materials. |
| Pt III, Line 31 | Program Service Accomplishments continued: Special Events held throughout the year including Hometown Holidays, which is EVA's holiday season community event. It continues to be very well received, yet has minimal cost. As with other EVA programs, there is a strong volunteer group that organizes this event, helping to ensure it remains successful, while keeping costs low. Another annual event is the Shaker 7 Race, a a 7 mile route around Lake Mascoma and through the downtown business district. Green-up Day, the Spring clean-up of the downtown and surrounding streets and rail trail in conjunction with the town's Memorial Day Parade. Economic Development: EVA organizes several events for business people to get together for networking, education, and brainstorming ideas to promote local businesses. In 2019, EVA continued our monthly Business Coffee sessions, hosted by local businesses at their business location. Most of these activities occur with little or no cost, due to the support of volunteers and local businesses that host the events. |
| Pt III, Line 31 | Program Accomplishments, continued: EVA published and distributed its biannual business directory to over 2,700 Enfield postal patrons, as well as being available at various sites around town. The online version of the directory is updated continually on the EVA website. |
| Pt III, Line 31 | Mascoma Lakeside Park (MLP): EVA is participating with the Town of Enfield to develop a park for public access to Mascoma Lake for Enfield residents. It will be used for picnics and a nonmotorized boat launch. It is hoped folks using the adjoining Rail Trail will be encouraged to stop in Enfield and perhaps visit our local businesses. The park is located at the end of Main Street, which is part of our program area. The park will be owned by the Town. |
| Pt III, Line 31 | In 2018, EVA hosted two community-wide business events. The first introduced Enfield businesses to the Lebanon Area Chamber of Commerce to discuss are wide business promotional opportunities. The second gathered business owners and property owners from the downtown village to brainstorm solutions to downtown parking issues. |
