IN PARTNERSHIP WITH LOCAL BIRDING GROUPS, THIS BIRD CHECKLIST WILL BE USED TO DEVELOP NEW COMMUNITY PROGRAMMING. RESEARCH BEGAN ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF A HISTORY CURRICULUM AIMED AT MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS THAT HIGHLIGHTS HISTORY OF THE FARM AS PART OF THE CHISHOLM TRAIL, LATER AS A 19TH CENTURY HOMESTEAD. THESE ARE THE EVENTS DURING 2019 - COFFEE CONVERSATION - THIS SERIES OF EVENTS FEATURES INFORMAL TALKS AIMED AT ENGAGING THE COMMUNITY ON ISSUES RELATED TO ENVIRONMENTAL WILDLIFE PRESERVATION ANIMAL WELFARE. THESE EVENTS TAKE PLACE AT THE FARM THROUGHOUT THE YEAR FEATURE LOCAL SPEAKERS. 2019 COFFEE CONVERSATION TOPICS INCLUDED PLANTING POLLINATOR GARDENS, SUPPORTING MONARCH MIGRATION, EQUINE FOSTERING. IN APRIL EASTER ON THE PRAIRIE WAS HOSTED BY THE CHISHOLM TRAIL HISTORICAL PRESERVATION SOCIETY, THIS ANNUAL EVENT INCLUDES EASTER EGG HUNTS, DEMONSTRATIONS BY LOCAL FIRE EMS DEPTS, A KIDS TRAIN, DANCING, ETC. IT WAS ESTIMATED THAT 3000 PEOPLE WERE IN ATTENDANCE. ALSO IN APRIL IRON THISTLE SCOTTISH FESTIVAL WAS HOSTED BY THE UNITED SCOTTISH CLANS OF OKLAHOMA, THIS ANNUAL 3 DAY EVENT INCLUDING TRADITIONAL SCOTTISH ATHLETICS, ENTERTAINMENT, FOOD CLAN TENTS. IT WAS ESTIMATED THAT 8000 PEOPLE WERE IN ATTENDANCE DURING ALL 3 DAYS. IN JUNE CHISHOLM TRAIL FESTIVAL WAS HOSTED BY THE CHISHOLM TRAIL HISTORICAL PRESERVATION SOCIETY, THIS ANNUAL EVENT INCLUDES CHISHOLM TRAIL CIVIL WAR REENACTMENTS, CHUCK WAGON COOKS, WILD WEST SHOWS, CHILDREN ACTIVITIES LOCAL VENDORS. IT WAS ESTIMATED THAT 3000 PEOPLE WERE IN ATTENDANCE. ALSO IN JUNE THE ANNUAL KIRKPATRICK OIL CO. PICNIC WAS HELD WITH AN ESTIMATED 120 PEOPLE ATTENDING. DURING JUNE THROUGH AUGUST HOSTED NUMEROUS ORGANIZATIONS INCLUDING GIRL SCOUTS, BOY SCOUTS, BOYS GIRLS CLUB, LOCAL DAY CARE. YOUTH SPENT TIME LEARNING ABOUT THE ANIMALS THAT RESIDE ON THE FARM AS WELL AS THE HISTORY OF THE CHISHOLM TRAIL ITS RELATIONSHIP TO THE FARM. ORGANIZATIONS WERE ALSO ABLE TO USE THE FARM TO ACCOMPLISH THEIR PROGRAM GOALS. DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR YUKON MIDDLE SCHOOL, LOCATED NEXT DOOR TO THE FARM, UTILIZES THE FARM AS AN OUTDOOR CLASSROOM FOR THEIR SCIENCE WILDLIFE EDUCATION CURRICULUM. THE SPECIAL EDUCATION DEPT CONDUCTS NATURE WALKS PROVIDES STUDENTS THE OPPORTUNITY TO ENGAGE WITH THE NATURAL ENVIRONMENT LEARN ABOUT THE ANIMALS BEES THAT INHABIT THE FARM. THE SCHOOL WORKS IN COOPERATION WITH THE FARM STAFF. |
