| FORM 990, PART III, LINE 4A, DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAM SERVICE: | OUR WORK HAS BEEN WIDELY RECOGNIZED WITH SEVERAL GEORGE FOSTER PEABODY AWARDS, A MACARTHUR AWARD FOR CREATIVE AND EFFECTIVE INSTITUTIONS, AND THE TED PRIZE. IN 2019, STORYCORPS PARTNERED WITH OVER 220 ORGANIZATIONS AND INTERVIEWED NEARLY 6,800 PEOPLE IN TOWNS AND CITIES ACROSS THE UNITED STATES, WITH 36% OF ALL PARTICIPANTS SELF-IDENTIFYING AS COMING FROM A HISTORICALLY-UNDERREPRESENTED GROUP. FROM THESE CONVERSATIONS, WE ADDED APPROXIMATELY 3,500 INTERVIEWS TO OUR ARCHIVE AT THE LIBRARY OF CONGRESS, WITH PARTICIPANTS UPLOADING AN ADDITIONAL 23,000 INTERVIEWS USING THE STORYCORPS APP. MILLIONS MORE PEOPLE EXPERIENCED STORYCORPS' MULTIMEDIA CONTENT THROUGH OUR WEEKLY NPR BROADCASTS, ANIMATIONS, PODCASTS, AND DIGITAL PLATFORMS, AND OUR COMMUNICATION EFFORTS AND DISTRIBUTION PARTNERSHIPS HELPED INCREASE STORYCORPS' EXPOSURE WITH NEW AUDIENCES. BELOW PLEASE FIND DETAILED DESCRIPTIONS OF OUR ACTIVITIES IN 2019. 1) RECORD AND PRESERVE THE STORIES OF EVERYDAY AMERICANS NATIONWIDE: STORYCORPS CONDUCTED APPROXIMATELY 3,500 INTERVIEWS IN 2019, ADDING TO OUR EVER-GROWING COLLECTION OF NEARLY 300,000 INTERVIEWS. GUIDED BY STORYCORPS-TRAINED FACILITATORS, PARTICIPANTS ARE INVITED TO RECORD A 40-MINUTE CONVERSATION WITH A FRIEND OR LOVED ONE TO SPEAK ABOUT THE THINGS THAT MATTER MOST TO THEM. PARTICIPANTS RECEIVE A DIGITAL COPY OF THEIR INTERVIEW AS A PRECIOUS KEEPSAKE, AND WITH THEIR PERMISSION, RECORDINGS ARE ADDED TO OUR ONLINE ARCHIVE AND COLLECTION AT THE LIBRARY OF CONGRESS. IN 2019, STORYCORPS FACILITATED INTERVIEWS AT OUR RECORDING BOOTHS IN CHICAGO AND ATLANTA, IN 10 TOWNS AND CITIES ACROSS THE COUNTRY THROUGH OUR ANNUAL MOBILE BOOTH TOUR, AND NATIONWIDE THROUGH SPECIAL INITIATIVES. IN ADDITION TO OUR INTERVIEW SERVICE, THE STORYCORPS APP INCREASES OUR REACH AND IMPACT TO ANYONE WITH A MOBILE DEVICE. AN ADDITIONAL 73,000 USERS REGISTERED FOR THE APP IN 2019, BRINGING OUR LIFETIME TOTAL USERS TO OVER HALF A MILLION SINCE ITS 2015 LAUNCH. THESE USERS UPLOADED 23,000 NEW INTERVIEWS IN 2019 (OUT OF A LIFETIME TOTAL OF 214,000), 13,000 OF WHICH WERE RECORDED AS PART OF OUR ANNUAL THE GREAT THANKSGIVING LISTEN CAMPAIGN, DESCRIBED BELOW. 2) SHARE AND AMPLIFY VOICES, INCLUDING FROM HISTORICALLY-UNDERREPRESENTED GROUPS: IN 2019, STORYCORPS PRODUCED 59 AUDIO SEGMENTS FOR NATIONAL BROADCAST ON NPR'S MORNING EDITION (14.5 MILLION ESTIMATED LISTENERS) AND WEEKEND EDITION (3 MILLION ESTIMATED LISTENERS). THESE SEGMENTS FEATURED PARTICIPANTS FROM DIVERSE AND UNDERREPRESENTED GROUPS, INCLUDING: 27% AFRICAN AMERICAN; 12% HISPANIC/LATINO; 4% ASIAN AMERICAN; 5% NATIVE AMERICAN/ALASKA NATIVE; AND/OR 12% LGBTQ. WE COLLABORATED WITH OVER 220 ORGANIZATIONS IN 2019 TO REACH DIVERSE COMMUNITIES NATIONWIDE THROUGH OUR INITIATIVES. STORYCORPS ALSO SUPPORTS CLASSROOM LEARNING BY ENRICHING LESSONS IN SOCIAL STUDIES, ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS, AND SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL LEARNING THROUGH THE GREAT THANKSGIVING LISTEN OUR ANNUAL CAMPAIGN THAT INVITES STUDENTS AND TEACHERS ACROSS THE COUNTRY TO INTERVIEW AN ELDER OR LOVED ONE.
